How do you identify an attention junkie?
And how do you deal with them?
How about a coworker who turns his speakerphone as loud as it can go, calls his voice mail even though the light isn't on, and when it loudly proclaims there are no messages, begins to yell at the phone, "NO MESSAGES? AW C'MON! THERE HAS TO BE AT LEAST ONE! NO? DAMN."
This is one of many many things done constantly to gain attention. Although he has been spoken to by upper management in the past, I just treat him like a child and ignore him.
What are the signs, and how do you deal?

I HAD a friend who always spoke of her self in the 3rd person.
That was a pretty big clue.
Story toppers are another breed of attention junkie.

I'm with you. I just ignore things like this and try not to let it distract me.
At a certain point, though, hopefully it becomes a performance issue so he can be disciplined!
If it's someone in my personal life, I minimize or avoid contact.

This guy is a manager so they treat him with kid gloves. Not much of a chance of him being disciplined.
Ah well. I just have to turn the music louder I guess.

hysterical description!!!!!!!!!!
I have some friends who can admit that they are attention junkies. That does not bother me as much as the people who don't see it in themselves.
