Gardening help

we are going to start our landscaping project. does anyone have any reccommendations on plants and trees. DH likes the japanese garden look.

I don't have very many other suggestions except ornamental grasses - they are low to no maintenance and look great.

I do have a warning though. Unless you'll do the research beforehand, don't plant bamboo. Some types of bamboo are very harmful and invasive.

People I know have planted them in concrete (!) pots and the roots broke through.
