something my Dr. said...

So I was a little surprised last night at the Dr. because he said that he doesn't think I'll go to a full 40 weeks. He'll see how I feel, and how big the baby is, but most likely if I am OK with it, he will induce me at 38 weeks.

What do you girls think about this? I was OK with it b/c I'm thinking, great, smaller baby, maybe an easier labor..have the baby 2 weeks "early"... but should I be against this for any reason?

TIA!

That's alittle strange to me being that you are still pretty early.

The only thing I've heard (or read) about being induced - and someone please correct me if I am wrong - but that if you are induced and the baby is just not ready to come out - chances are you will end up having a c-section.

I thought it was a little strange, maybe I misunderstood him somehow? I can't see how, I mean, he basically said he'd induce me..maybe there are other factors that come into play to determine if he can do this...I don't know!

I don't like that Drs. interfere with nature. If there were reason to be concerned, that's one thing. But the baby knows better than anyone when he or she is ready.

I am against all this interverntion anyway.

I agree about it being a little on the side of caution/weirdness with the doc. Did he give a reason why he would want to go so early? Mine wont' even talk about induction until you are at least somewhat dilated to reduce the chance of c section.

Sometimes if you aren't ready and not progressing you could go to C, I Honestly think most don't.

but it really depends on your body and you body and we aren't privey to those secretsChat Icon

Me too! Unless there is some medical need for it... I would ask him his reasons for him saying this.

totally agree here!
I say let nature takes its course....the baby will let you know when he/she is ready.
Im even not upset that I am possibily going a wk late according to doc.

Re: something my Dr. said...

I am actually getting induced on Monday. (I am due Sun, the day before.) My doctor said I am a perfect candidate for an induced labor.
I am having severe cramping and am really uncomfortable. I have been dilated for about 5 weeks now. Now at almost full term I am 2cm and 70% effaced. I am really excited for my baby to be here and I feel there is nothing wrong with being induced as long as you have some progression.
Are you dilated at all?

She's only 18 weeks - that's what shocks me the most I think - why would he even bring that up now?

Re: something my Dr. said...

That's interesting.

I was discussing a c-section with my Dr. last night and asked her if an induction would be another option. She flat out told me she would not do an induction until 41 wks. That it would depends on how soft my cervix was, etc...

I don't know but I think this sounds like a doc trying to plan his maternity/births for himself and to plan his own schedule.

18 weeks is def too early to be thinking and scheduling inductions.

Re: something my Dr. said...

Im thinking that you are tiny or petite and this could have something to do with it..

Im very short waisted and by 34 weeks the baby is soooo far up into my ribcage that it starts to make breathing difficult...Ive never gone past 36 weeks any way so its never been a real issue...

Im sure your doctor is just speculating and this is nothing you should be concerned with...

Next time just ask him why....

Re: something my Dr. said...

The same thing happend to me at my 38 week appt. He said "you know, we can get this baby out anytime you want"--but "i know you want to try natural"

I was really surprised that he was pushing this!!!

Re: something my Dr. said...

I would want to know why?

I personally am not for inducing b/c It appears to increase your chances of a c-section, longer labor as they babys just not ready to come out...why mess with nature.

I wouldnt go for an induction unless there was a reason.
