Heartbreaking Story from UK (long)
If I knew how to post a link I would, but I don't so I'll summarise.
Natalie Evans (35) has lost the right to become a mother. The 6 frozen embryos that she created with her then Fiance Howard Johnston 5 years ago are to be destroyed according to the European Court of Human rights.
Evans & Johnston had been trying for a baby when Doctors discovered that she had pre cancerous tumors on both ovaries and they had to be removed. The couple made the decision to freeze the embryos in the hope of starting a family later. 8 months later they split up at that time Johnston withdrew his consent for the embryos to be used.
Evan pleaded with Johnston, the case went through the High Court & European courts. The current IVF law in UK requires the consent of both partners for embryos to be used. The Grand Chamber said it "sympathised" with Evans but rejected her appeal. Johnston said "I want to chose who & when I start a family" he is currently single with no plans to start a family "I am glad common sense prevailed" he said.
I think this is so sad, my heart bleeds for her. I understand that both sides need to give consent, but he could have been a teensey bit more understanding, being as he can go on and have children whenever he wants, she however cannot. Poor girl.

OMG that poor woman . How can her ex fiance be so cold. At some point he must have loved her. And now he destroys her only chance to have a bio child. It is just cruel.

That is just horrible. I can't even imagine knowing your only opportunity to have a baby is about to be destroyed. What a heartless B*stard.

Re: Heartbreaking Story from UK (long)
That is very sad.
Now I understand why SIRM had us sign 5 million consent pages on what to do with the embryos, enumerating every possible scenario...

My mom told me she heard about this. I feel so bad for the poor girl and the guy is a piece of sh!t
Why couldn't they act like he was a donor or something? That happens all the time....couldn't he waive his rights?

Re: Heartbreaking Story from UK (long)
But do you really think that he should be forced to father a child that he does not want and with a women he is not longer with?
I feel awful for her. It is very, very sad. I am sure she is heartbroken. But I don't think the courts were wrong with their decision. Do you really all think that?

Re: Heartbreaking Story from UK (long)
This is horrible, I can't even imagine being in this situation.
I can see both sides of it. I can see he doesn't want to father a child with a woman he is no longer with. But, I can also see that she has no other opportunity to have a child again. It's such a shame.
