Does anyone else have a lot of anxiety about being pregnant? Everyone tells me a relaxed mom makes for a mellow baby but all i do is worry Chat Icon Especially now that people know I'm pregnant, I keep freaking out that something is going to go wrong. I ate a turkey sandwich the other day and almost had a nervous breakdown after reading more about listeria. I just want to relax Chat Icon

Re: Anxiety

I worried in the very beginning and I'd say it died down now that I'm safely in the second trimester. I worried mainly about m/c, but I also worried a little about what I ate, but now all that sorta subsided. I can feel flutters now and that puts me at ease. I especially can be at ease when I don't feel pg at all, I actually almost forget about it at times! I think it will get better for you as time progresses!

Re: Anxiety

I actually feel like I have more anxiety now at almost 36 weeks compared to the 1st and 2nd trimesters. I am constantly worrying about my little girl being healthy when she is born. I don't know why all of sudden I constantly make myself upset thinking about the "what-ifs".

Re: Anxiety

Im pretty laid back to begin with and dont worry about most of the usual things...

I have been through the wringer in the past..its enabled me to put things in perspective.

You cant let yourself get stressed out over..prenatal testing, what you can a cannot eat-b/c you can find an article telling you that you cant eat almost everything, labor, c-sections, or that glass of wine that you had before you knew you were pregnant, caffeine, paint, UGH and all the rest..STRESS is not good for the baby either...

Do I worry of course BUT then I have a cup of decaf chai tea, turn down the lights, and take some needed deep breaths..If that doesnt work I take a nice bath...

Re: Anxiety

I am usually a mess in a dress- I worry about EVERYTHING. Lately, after my 9th week I have chilled out a lot.

Just try and do the best you can, I know it's hard but each day try to get a little calmer.

I can totally relate, things that stress me out do not even have an effect on most people.

Re: Anxiety

Anxiety was a big part of me in the past. It creeps up every now again, espcially with a new baby to worry about! The best advice I got was worrying about things doesn't change the end result. Try and enjoy your pregnancy, you know you are doing the best you can!

OMG I am keeping myself up at night with the same things. I see so many things on TV lately, commercials and TV Shows and just keep thinking "What if the baby has that?" I hope these next few weeks go fast!!!

Re: Anxiety

I definitely have ALOT of anxiety that is always there now. It has gotten significantly better as time has gone on but I am sure it will always be there until the baby is born since there is just so much unknown - I find a few things that help me are: not indulging my anxiety = i.e. not doing research online or in books of my worries and fears, not asking family members etc, trying to put out of mind anytime a worry comes in instead of letting it consume me and finally, praying and trusting in god.

Hope this helps a little Chat Icon

Re: Anxiety

I have been pretty easy going throughout the whole pregnancy. I dont really worry to much about the babies health b/c everythign has been going great so far. I just tell myelf everyday that my baby is doing fine and will be fine once he/she is here. That relaxes me a lot.

Re: Anxiety

I worry about miscarriage--I've even had dreams about this. They were horrible. I'm in my 1st trimester though, and my sister has had problems so I'm very aware of what can go wrong. Plus, I'm 39, so I worry that there will be some abnormality due to my age.

I also have a chronic disorder which is under good control now, but can get aggravated with pregnancy, so I worry about that at times. Plus we're buying a house, trying to sell our co-op...it's a wonder DH and I get any sleep at all.

I do try to live in the present, and tell myself that today, everything is fine. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
