Is this weird??
My MIL lives in Florida and recently told DH that she feels "left out" of the pregnancy. He couldn't understand why...but then she went on to say how we don't call her, or she would like to be able to talk more w/me. UMM...OK yes we have been bad about calling..BUT honestly girls...I don't even call my own mother who is in Connecticut and he told her that. The only reason I speak to my mom so much is because she calls me. Now ..I don't understand how she can say she feels left out when she lives so far away..and doesn't call the house. She always calls him to speak to him..when I'm at work.
I just get the feeling this is going to be the beginning of a lot more headaches to come and also think this is a result of her finding out that my mom is coming back to take care of the baby for us.
I don't want to seem insensitive or uncaring..but I just think it was totally ridiculous. I could understand if this was the the first grandchild but it's not..it's the 4th and this is NOT the first girl. Yes DH is the baby ..but at some point the cord has to be cut. Alot of times I don't like having discussions with her because she is a JW (Jehovah Witness) and tends to bring it up ALOT knowing well that I am a Catholic.
I don't know..is it me??

Re: Is this weird??
No, I would feel the same, but at the same time its better that she wants to be involved than not. She probably wants to be called. I'm finding that even my own parents sometimes give me the guilt trip about not calling them enough. Sounds to me like she just doesn't want to be forgotten about...sounds like she wants a relationship with you but at the same time doesn't want to be the one to pick up the phone. I'd view it as a good thing. Maybe after your next sonogram you can mail her a a picture w/a short note...then maybe she'll call you...even if you don't care or want her to, it would probably make her happy.
Sometimes I feel like we "kids" need to make an extra effort to keep our parents/inlaws happy.

Re: Is this weird??
It's funny you should mention the next sono..because tomorrow is Part 2 of my detailed sono..and she asked DH if it was ok for her to be in the room because she's here this week until Friday. At first I was a little weirded out by it..because this is a full hour of a sonogram we are having..and my mother didn't even ask to be in the room. At first I told him I didn't know ..but somehow that answer got changed to yes..and now...she's coming with us. If that's not enough..then what is...LOL!

Re: Is this weird??
Wow...you're really nice to let her come in. I would be kind of annoyed too if she was stressing you out over not calling enough. You are pregnant and the last thing you need is added drama to your life.
Everytime my DH and I see his mother, she has to remind us and ME that my DH needs to see her more. She could honestly care less if she sees or speaks to me and I'm fine with that. He's the only child and she's been divorced for over 25 years and never dated or remarried, so yes, it's quite the challenge sometimes dealing with her. Mind you, my DH sees and speaks to his mother more than anyone I know. I am very fearful for what's to come once the baby is born too. My mom is going to be way more involved and will be at the hospital as soon as I get admitted and I can only imagine what drama this will cause. Part of me wants my mom to be there with me when the baby is born, but I know that if the MIL is not invited and my mom is, it's WWIII.

Re: Is this weird??
HAHA...I know what you mean.
Well since this is not my first child, (I have a son who's 15), and it's his first child..I am HOPING that his mother doesnt' automatically expect to be in the room. I was 19 when I had my son and didn't have my mom there. Not sure why..but I think this time..I want her there. I know if I say my mom will be there..she will be upset if I say no to her..but how many people do I want looking at my private area...sheesh. LOL
