feeling down today

I know I really cant complain because you girls have been through so much already, but I have just been super sad lately and feel down.

I want so badly to start TTC because I really feel that it will be very difficult to get me to ovulate (I have not yet had a natural period since August and was diagnosed with PCOS). Im feeling sad because I know I cant right now due to the fact that I am finishing up my last two master's classes and I am untenured in my district. On top of that, DH is still in shock of the notion of me having to take fertility drugs etc.

I just wish that I could fast forward so I could start trying and feel that I was being proactive about all of this. I have my annual in May and told DH we will talk more about TTC then. I'm nervous as to having to take leave before my tenure as my district has a hsitory of denying people tenure at the 3 year mark. I havent had any issues with them, but I just feel like it is a risk I shouldnt take, especially being that I could have multiples and would need go earlier etc.

I think I just needed to vent. I guess it is better than trying with no avail and THEN finding out I have problems. Did anyone else deal with this?

Thanks for listening. Chat Icon

I think that everyone is surprised when they have problems, you just don't think it's going to happen to you.

The waiting does suck, but once you start fertility treatment, you'll find yourself doing a lot of waiting!

I don't know anything about PCOS, so can't help you there.

Good luck with everything and just try not to worry too much, easier said than done, I know!Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon All I can say is to take one day at a time especially since your not TTCing yet. You seem to be a bit overwhelmed. When the time comes, I am sure you will priortize your life with what matters most and things will fall in place.

As for PCOS, have you considered metformin? It is not a fertility drug and actually, you can start taking it now before TTCing. It could take up to 3 months for the meds to take effect and help you ovulate. Just something to think about. Women do get PG with PCOS....it's is considered the preferred IF issue. Chat Icon

I thought Metformin was the one that helps with glucose levels? I am not overweight and do not have an issue with glucose.

Thanks for the hugs.. I just wish I wasn't so cluttered with other "life" things right now

Most women with PCOS are insulin resistant, however, I am not. Although controversial, my doctor advised me that taking Met won't hurt to try it.

As for the clutter "life", tell me about it!!! I learned of my IF as I was getting laid-off, husband getting a new a job, and moving Long-Distance to another state. Although my life is still cluttered, I feel like I could breathe again.

You are better off knowing ahead of time what obstacles you might have to getting PG. The "life" things have a way of falling into place.

Re: feeling down today

I know it's frustrating but at least you know there is something wrong before you start. Sounds dumb I know but so many of us TTC'ed for so long before we found out about problems so in the long run it makes it even more frustrating. Before you know it time will fly and you will be officially TTC'ing with an effect method of helping your PCOS which is very common BTW.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: feeling down today

i'm sorry you are so overwelmed, it's sad that IF can really make things feel upside down.

i am a nyc teacher, which i know is different than being tenured on LI, but honestly i would not even think twice about the tenure issue. unfortunately, with IF issues, you have NO CONTROL whatsoever about timing. i'm sure no one on this board thought their "plans" to have a baby would change as dramatically as they did. i'm not sure how old you are, but i don't think i would wait just because of the job. of course, you and dh have to both feel ready to get on this roller coaster, but i just think it's really hard to "plan" everything out first.

i hope this makes sense, i'm not saying not to think about things like finances, and plans, but i just don't want you to get bogged down in things that you won't be able to control and that will take away unnecessary energy.

good luck and many, many hugs to you!!

Re: feeling down today

The good thing for you is that you already know there is a problem - that's half the battle. The other good thing is that you have PCOS, the most easily treated infertility problem. You could do as another poster said and speak to your Dr. about Metformin...at the very least have blood work done and see if you even need it.
And then you can wait until you and your DH are on the same page and you don't have to worry about tenure. You don't say how old you are, but if you are under 30, it's probably not an urgent thing for you to start trying now (unless you really want to).
Good luck to you!!

Re: feeling down today

I just wanted to tell you that I had the same feeling about not wanting to start to TTC until I was finished with my MBA, but I did anyway. It did take me 5 months to get pregnant the first time, I started in June and got pregnant in November, and I was finished with my MBA in December. I just wanted to ask you how much you really thought abou it, if you only have to classes left and you're taking them now, you'll be done in May. Even if you got pg this cycle, you'd be 2 months pg by the time you finished out the semester. I don't know how much the fact that you're not tenured plays a role in your decision to TTC, I just wanted you to be able to try to see starting to TTC from another angle.

Good luck to you and don't worry, at least you know now that you have PCOS and that you'll start out straight away by going to an RE instead of TTC on your own. You could have wasted a year just doing that had you not known about the PCOS.

I know exactly how you are feeling Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
I too was very worried when I started thinking about TTC because just like you I never got AF normally and I knew something was wrong. When I finally went to the gyn they diagnosed me with PCOS and put me on BCP's. The BCP's regulated AF but once I got married I stopped BCP and after a few months the irregularity happened again.
Currently i'm on Metformin and take Clomid to ovulate.
I'm sure once you are ready to TTC your doctor will give you the meds and hopefully you won't take too long getting PG. Lots of luck to you.

Re: feeling down today

Thanks girls!!! You all made me feel so much better!

I am young.. I will be turning 26 in a few weeks. I know most of you would say I have TONS of time and so forth, but you have to remember I have been with my DH for over 8 years so I feel like I am more than "ready" to have a child.
