Another wight gain question......

By the end of your second trimester what is the average you should have gained so far? I want to try to stay/get on track depending on what the average is. I looked in my book and can't seem to find it.

Re: Another wight gain question......

I think it varies on each person. I have gained 25lbs to date (25th week) and my doctor hasn't said a word about it. She said it is fine and to keep doing what I am doing.

I am not focusing on the weight - I will get it off once I am not pregnant. If your doctor was concerned I'm sure they would tell you - until then - Enjoy!

Re: Another wight gain question......

My Dr. recommends only gaining 30-35lbs with the most gain towards the end. With DS I gained I think 15lbs by 20 weeks but after that I was putting a few pounds a month on and by 35 weeks I was 40lbs. I delivered at 39 weeks and had put another 5lbs on.

This time around I am 21 weeks and only gained 4lbs. My eating habits are different and my DS keeps me busy durning the day so I am a little more active. I told her I was concerned at 16 weeks and she said she was happy that I didn't gain weight yet and to save it for the last trimester.

I wouldnt worry about it thought. As long as you are eating for 2 at every meal you should be fine. Some people naturally put weight on while PG.

Re: Another wight gain question......

I was told 3-5 lbs the 1st trimester, then 1 pound a week for the rest of pg.

So 25-35lbs total.

BUT, my doc doesn't care as long as i am healthy and baby is healthy, weight is not priority for him.

I am 21 weeks, I have gained 20lbs so far, with DD around this time i gained about the same. No matter what i do or eat i still gain like crazyChat Icon I give up!

Re: Another wight gain question......

don't really think there is any average ..everyone is different and each pregnancy is different..

I have gained 12lbs so far at 25 weeks. However I know it was alot more with my DS at this point..I'm sure chasing a 14 month around now has alot to do with it Chat Icon

I use to sit around watching Baby Story then, not this time! LOL

Re: Another wight gain question......

I honestly gain 10 lbs from the time I get pregnant to my first OB appt...I know it has nothing to do with me eating..Im usually so ill that just the thought of food makes me sick..this pregnancy hasnt been any different...sure enough at my first appt I was exactly 10lbs heavier..my doctor said its my bodies reaction to the pregnancy and that I tend to retain water..

With each one of my pregnancies I gain about 50 pounds and once they are about a week old I have less than 20 lbs to lose..So I guess a lot of it can be water weight and fluid etc....

Re: Another wight gain question......

I have read so many things about this & a lot depends on your weight before (ie. over or under weight). As long as you and the baby are doing well - no signs of diabetes, high bp, etc. it is very individual. For example, I started out over my ideal weight. At 29 weeks, I have only gained 9 lbs, but by belly is huge - the weight shifts around from your existing fat stores - you can tell because my legs & butt have gotten smaller. My doctor is not concerned at all - the baby, at my last sono on Monday is measuring 3lb 2oz. which is larger than the average for 29 weeks! I am healthy & so is the baby. So, it is a very individual issue and only you and your doctor can decide what is best.

Re: Another wight gain question......

I am not sure, I have gained only 9 lbs so far & she has not said anything to me recently about weight gain. She said the baby is measuring well & that the growth is on schedule & I guess that is what's most important.....

I did not gain any weight until 16 weeks though.

No necessarily.... With DS my doc told me that I'd probably gain 20lbs and I only gained 18lbs for the whole pg. It depends on a woman's frame and build. Since I was overweight, I was told that I probably won't gain as much as some women.

With this pg, I've gained 28lbs so far.
