Do We Need A Monitor?
We have a ranch, and the baby's room is directly across the hall from our bedroom. The rooms are at the end of the hall, the rest of the house is not that far from the baby's room. Do we need a monitor? I don't mind registering for one, if we're going to need it. My house is cozy, so I'm thinking we'd be able to hear crying from anywhere.
We do have a finished basement, but we're rarely ever down there at the same time.

we have a hi ranch and our daughters room is across from ours and we never used a monitor....we can hear her from anywhere in the house! We got one for our shower, and tried to use it when she was a newborn, but it wouldnt work b/c her room was too close to ours!

I always thought to have one - just in case you have to go outside or if you have company over and you feel you might not hear the baby.

Oh, good point, I hadn't thought about being outside. Considering she'll be a summer baby, I'm sure we'll be outside.
Better add it to the list! 
And smdl, I'll probably just get the audio one too!

See my daughter was a summer baby - and I had to be outside while she napped - that is why mine came in soooo handy 
I think the one I got is called Sony Baby Call or something like that. Hope that helps
