Re: Dents in carpet
Here's some suggestions I found on the web:
Ice cubes seem to work: Ice Cubes
Question: How do I remove the indentations in my carpet that are there as a result of my furniture sitting in a single place for an extended period of time? I recently rearranged the furniture in a room, and now have these strange indentations (marks) in my carpet. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Answer From The Home Doctor: Russell, I see that you are not the only one that moves furniture around. My spouse likes to rearrange about everyother week. Heavy furniture on carpet poses a problem, in that the constant weight crushes the pile& makes it difficult for it to recover from it. Most carpet yarns today are much better in returning back to their original form, but if they do not, it 's important to note that most carpet warranties don't cover this. One way to help remove these indentations is to take a white towel & slightly dampen it with water & lay it over the mark. Next, take a common steam iron & iron it. The steam will sometimes cause the fiber to expand & stand back up. If this does not work, you may want to hire a professional cleaner. Some of these carpet cleaners can steam it out with their heavier equipment. If this does not work, all I can say is don't move the furniture. On a final note, most people put the blame solely on the carpet, but in fact it is the padding that really fails the test of heavy furniture. If the pad crushes under the weight, the carpet is sure to follow. Newer pads out now,(10 lb. solid foams) will resist the urge to indent in the first place.
Does anyone know how to remove furniture dents from thick carpet?

Answers: RE: Furniture Dents in Carpet First make sure how your carpet fiber is to be cleaned, then make sure you have a wet vac or a carpet cleaner machine. Get a wet cloth with what ever your carpet can stand, dampen not soak the area, then use the vac or cleaning machine to pull the carpet back up. I have done this every 30 mins or so until carpet looked lifted. May not lift padding but carpet should look better. (10/07/2004)
By gglo RE: Furniture Dents in Carpet I heard you can put ice cubes on that spot. Never tried it, but you might. (10/07/2004)
By Jayne RE: Furniture Dents in Carpet I've also heard of using the tines of a fork rubbing them gently back and forth over the 'dented' areas - claims to raise the fibers back in place. (10/08/2004)
By CATS719 RE: Furniture Dents in Carpet To take the marks from furniture out of carpet, put a soft towel over the marks and use a steam iron. Let the steam penetrate the towel and the nap on the carpet will come up. Just a quick brush with your hand will make it look good as new. (10/09/2004)
By Arlene RE: Furniture Dents in Carpet I used a Scunci Steamer and a fork. Took awhile, but it did the trick. (04/08/2005)

Re: Dents in carpet
Use a damp clothe/towel (USE A WHITE TOWEL, you don't want colors to bleed on your carpet) and use a regular iron. Make a "ball" of the damp clothe/towel then put the iron "on top" of the damped towel. MAKE SURE THE IRON DOES NOT TOUCH THE CARPET. Size of the ball should be at least 8 inches or so.
Heat from the iron the damp towel will create steam. Don't use on a dry towel.. it won't work.
