we have a pretty big coat closet but if we didn't, I would probably put them in the bedroom closet.

we have ours in our bedroom closet and the guest room closet.
when we have company, we throw their coats on our bed

We don't have a coat closet either, my DH built something like the pic above & its near our back door, but its not really far from the front door so we put our coats there. Then our extra coats I hang in the guest room closet. The arrangment of my front door doesn't leave any room for a coat tree or a wall rack.

We have this coat rack before we bought the hosue and it looks great. It is from Pier 1, our house does have a hallway closet but I still love the CR and will use it in the new home.
