Spinoff: Bottles on the go

When I was looking at diaper bags and travel bottle warmers, I got confused as to what I really need. When you leave the house, do you keep your bottle cold in an insluated diaper bag or one with a cold pack, or do you let them stay at room temp for awhile? Also, do you find you ever need a travel bottle warmer? Thanks.

It depends. I buy the 8 oz ready to feed formula for long outtings but if I am going somewhere close by like to a friends house I put the bottles in the freezer pack for the commute and take them out and put them in the fridge when I get to my destination.

I keep a RTF can in my diaper bag along with a clean bottle just in case. However, I usually boil water in the am for the day so when I go out, I fill a couple of bottles with hot water and put them in the insulated pouch. I then have the powder dispenser and put as many scoops to the amount of ounces I need. I just make the bottle when I need it and the water is warm or at the very least, room temp.

Do yourself a favor, and try to get DC used to taking a bottle cold and at room temp.

I use powdered formula, so i fill the bottle with water and carry the premeasured formula containers, just mix and she's ready to eat.

Gianna didn't like room temp water, but when she was hungry she ate it. Now she takes it warm or cold.

I bought a dipsenser for the powder formula and i carry it with spare empty bottles and bottled water. it was too much to keep them cold and then find a way to heat them up too.

Megan drink her milk cold which is a big help. If we go somewhere close, like a quick errand, I just take the small insulated bag that holds 2 bottles and 2 ice packs. If we go to moms, I just pop them in the diaper bag and put in her fridge when we get there. If its a long trip, we take the bigger insulated bag with ice packs. We always do rtf bottles and have them made up before hand so its convenient to just grab them and go. The thing is though, how your child likes their milk. From the beginning we gave it to her cold, and she likes it like that which makes it MUCH EASIER!

I did the same thing, one of the reasons I loved powder formula.

I do the same thing. Before I introduced formula I would sometimes bring along a bottle of breast milk so I had a separate bottle bag that had an ice pack in it. I was usually able to get him to drink it cold. I bought one of these On the go bottle warmers, but it didn't work. the gel got hot, but it never warmed the bottle. maybe if you were starting with room temp water it would work, but for a cold bottle it didn't help at all...and it takes like 15 minutes anyway.External Image
