My family is going on our first Disney Cruise next week! We're so excited. Any tips from past cruisers?

Thanks!

yup! pirate stuff for pirate night!!! and make sure your kids get a good nap that day... the fireworks don't go off until like 10 or 10:30 i think... their private island is AWESOME!!!!! the cruise we did had a 2 day stop there. LOVED it!!!! the shows at night are great, too- so definitely make sure you see them!! we loved the rotational dining thing they do- you eat at a different restaurant every night, but have the same servers.... you'll have a great time!!

Re: Disney Cruise

Bring some beach toys. I didn't and also did not want to spend ~$20 for a Nemo beach bucket at Castaway Cay. Boys still had a blast.

Bring a little cash to send post cards from Castaway Cay. We mailed one home, grandparents and a few friends. Everyone loved them.

Definitely bring liquid hand soap for stateroom. 2 bottles if you have a split bath. Bar soap is sucky for handwashing.

Bring hilighter for daily navigator. Tonssssss to do.

Bring an extra card to use for lights if you are on Dream or Fantasy. Old gift card is good. That way you aren't leaving the room and forgetting to take your room card out of light slot.

As soon as you board go to excursion desk to get Elsa and Anna meet and greet tix and princess gathering. They go quickly and you must have tix. ** these can be booked online now

Get to port early. Mickey and Minnie are there for pics and you want to get on the ship as soon as you can. We had a port arrival time of 1045 and were boarded in group 5 at a little before noon.

Adults sign up for galley tour. Not in navigator. Get tix at guest services. I thought it was interesting. The galley was immaculate. Cleanest kitchen I have seen! Then again you could eat off the bathroom floors on the ship...spotless and immaculate everywhere!

Kids club activities are great. My dd did a lot of the activities. Don't miss super sloppy science. They make flubber and do volcanoes! Complete with mad science attire. Piston cup challenge in kids club....awesome! They make cars out of soap blocks and really race them.

Family activities...don't miss Mickey 200....make vegetable cars and race them. Fills up fast!

Ride Aquaduck ( if on dream or fantasy) early morning or on a port day. Or after dinner. Lines get long.

Sign up for 50mb free wifi on first day before midnight. Disable all auto updates and that should last a bit just checking email and uploading a few pics.

Don't miss the shows....broadway quality.

Castaway Cay nemo bucket is $6.95 and Cinderella castle is the same. We brought shovels.

Don't pack a hairdryer if on D or F. They have Baybliss ones. Also H20 shampoo and conditioner that works great.

If you love the cruise and want to book again, do so on board. You get 10 percent off, up to $200 obc and only 10percent deposit. If you don't know when you want to travel again....that's okay. Book a placeholder cruise before you disembark. You pay $200 deposit and have to book within 2 years! You get the same perks..win win!

We absolutely loveeeee the cruise. The staff and service is absolutely amazing. Worth every penny ( and I am frugal for most things!)

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

We are on the fantasy leaving this saturday. I can not wait. I'm not a huge disney fanatic, but I have heard that these cruises are unbelievable. Everyone that I know that's gone has said it's one of their favorite vacations.

You're welcome ladies!!

A few more

Definitely send the kids to the club for the Pluto Pajama party. Pluto makes a visit, and they get a pillowcase that says Plutos PJ party to take home! Hook and Smee come in for the "Get the Hook" program also. Lots of the programs have awesome character interaction actually. Also take advantage of the open house times where you all can do stuff together in the club/lab.

The teen club has a small pool. So for sea days, if there are open house days in the teen club, go up there to take a dip. The main pools get crowded on sea days.

Also, definitely check out the adult pool. So nice and serene. I did that when my son was the movies and daughter at the club. It was a nice, peaceful hour!

If you have time, print out some Mickey ears and parts to decorate your stateroom door. If you google, or join a FB Disney Cruise group, you will see what I'm talking about.

OP obviously doesn't have time, but joining a "fish extender" group is fun. Google for more info. The groups can be found for each cruise on FB. We participated and I made beach bags, shovels, and frisbees for the cabins in our group. It was fun to come back to little surprises each day.

Bingo is so fun!! Not your traditional Bingo. It's a little pricey, but it's really entertaining. Definitely get the electronic bingo package. Easier than doing all paper cards. Someone won the $5,000 jackpot on our last night!

Don't miss the See Ya Real Soon presentation on the last night. It's late, but try to stay up. ALL of the characters and the princesses come out to the atrium for autographs and pics and to say goodbye, then they show a quick movie of clips they filmed of the guests on your current cruise. You will see cast members walking around with a video camera on castaway cay and the ship. It was really nice!

You CAN bring your own water, etc. on board, or buy their water package. They do have filtered water, but bottled is easier than having to run up to the beverage area.

Also at Castaway Cay, the characters come out around 9:15am so don't get off too early , we made that mistake the first cruise, and walked across the sand, and not the path, and missed the characters. We like to get off at the first tram spot, and sit in front of the "monkey bar" type area that is IN the water. That way you are close to the character spots, boats, gazebo where they have various things, and the food/ice cream. A short walk over to Pelican Plunge (waterslide barge thing....so fun!! definitely do that!). I also like that you can see the ship while relaxing. Further down at Pelican Point beach you don't have as good of a view IMO.

Also there is a Disney Cruise App. Called Disney Cruise Navigator. Download that! You can communicate with other people in your party via on board texting through the app. There is also the daily navigator stuff on the app, but I found some things to be inaccurate. That is also where you go to get the free 50mb of data for the wifi

I'm sure I will think of more tips lol. Have a great time!!!

Please keep going!!

We are in a FE group. We are giving disposable underwater cameras. We are traveling with a large family group, so all of the kids are getting special gifts from us as well.

Thanks!

I agree with all of the tips above and want to reiterate:

Don't miss any of the shows - they are excellent.

Bring pirate costumes for pirate night. Also, bring your own princess dresses if you have DDs.

Do not miss the See ya real soon party - that is one of our favorite things.

Great gift!! My kids kept asking to buy an underwater camera since I didn't pack one! I am sure your group will LOVE that!

Also, if you have your own snorkeling equipment, you can bring that, and avoid having to pay for the rental on Castaway Cay. Anyone can use the snorkel area for free if you have your own. You just have to wear their snorkel vest so they can see you

Also, ice cream....if you don't want cones, just run to the beverage station and get the paper cups! We received sundae kits as part of a FE gift, which was nice too!

Can non-swimmers snorkel wearing life vests?

My 6yo is a beginner swimmer and my 4yo still wears a puddle jumper. I know they would LOVE to look underwater and see fish.

Yes they can wear life vests, they just have to put the snorkel vest over it. The snorkel vest DOES inflate a little, but I would still do the life vests.
