zyrtec vs claritin
My 5 year old has severe seasonal allergies along with allergies to cats and dogs. They have kicked into high gear this weekend after a visit to a friend who had a cat and dog... I started him back on a dose of Benadryl on top of his Claritin, but I think it is time to switch to Zyrtec. I have read that there can be some negative side effects. He can't take Allegra or anything with red dye in it so I picked up Childrens Zyrtec. I am going to give him half the dose for now.. Anyones kid have issues while on Zyrtec. Behavior or other issues.

zyrtec vs claritin
no.. but zyrtec doesn't work that well on my kid. Still you need to give it time and Id not layer them. I give AJ Zyrtec now with Benadryl after that dose is 'over'. My doc just told me that you can't keep them on one type for more than 4m, you need to switch or they can build up a tolerance and its less effective.
AJ and I have allergies. I know from tests I'm allergic to Dust first and cats secondary. I have two cats LOL. I keep the dust down as much as I can, I can't clean without a mask and my meds. If the cats get to be too much or if Im outside with the seasonal triggers then I wipe my face and arms down with a wet napkin, change my clothes and take my meds. Then go sit in a 'safe' place with a cool towel on my eyes and forehead waiting for the meds to kick in. LOL AJ puts an icepack on her eyes.
Do not remove the clothes in the room, it leaves it on the carpet. use napkins because you can toss them.
Yep, we do allergies here!
ETA: I do dye free Benadryl from Target. And dye free Claritin from Walmart as well as dye free zyrtec from Walmart. I never buy name brand. I tried Allegra once and literally sat watching her suffer for hours while it stayed in her system and I couldn't give her anything else. That said, its been years I should probably give it another try. It generally takes about 2 days before I see the long term affects. Benadryl however is best for short term relief.

Thank you.. I buy store brand too.. I am thinking the claritin stopped working so I am switching over to Zyrtec which he hasn't had in a long time.. I had to get the dissolving tabs because he won't take the liquid. I found store brand benadryl bubble gum flavored which he was taking up until yesterday and now am fighting to get anything in to him.
Allegra did nothing for him except make him sleep. And I didn't want to give him something that will make him feel worse. He has high functioning autism and mild adhd and I have read that zyrtec can make him hyper... I may have to go a nasal spray route...
