Not sure where to post this..I’ve been taking Zoloft for quite sometime 25mg, I tried 50mg briefly but felt off, it was a weird feeling just off, so I went back down to 25. I still feel like I need to be on the medication, has anyone been on 50 and felt better after a few weeks of taking it? I tried 50 for a month and felt sick

I would talk to your doctor about it. Getting off and raising dosages is the devil. However, Zoloft is one of the better ones.

I’ve never taken Zoloft, but I have taken others. You really need to take it easy when you go down. I was on Effexor (awful drug!) and the doctor said I could get off of it in a week— yeah, no. It takes weeks to lower the dosage. I wound up the hospital from a really bad reaction.

One suggestion that I read is that if you can open up the capsule (if there is one), then take out a few of the insides over a slow period of time.

Zoloft didn't work well for me. I have GAD, obsessive impulses and suffered from PPA. I take Effexor 150mg which has been lifechanging.

That’s interesting that Paxil worked for you. It’s kind of similar to Effexor. I took Effexor years ago and it worked fine. I went back to the doctor last year and asked for Effexor, thinking it would help. It worked for a month or so. Then it made me shake a lot.

It made me shake so bad that I passed out on the subway and I went to the ER when I came to. That fücking $hit has left me with shaking for months. It’s getting better and there is no more shaking in my head (I have been checked out by a doctor about this). It’s been a nightmare and I understand about your comment about PTSD.

It just did not help me at all. It worked in the beginning, but, man, I never want to see another one of those pills ever again.

OP: I had good results with Buspar. But that was years ago.

Be very careful about Effexor. There is a difference between SSRIs and SNRIs. Check the half life of the drug. I have heard good things about Prozac. It can be gentler.

So far so good - I've been on it for about a year. The only side effect is a nasty headache if I miss a dose, the headache usually starts by mid-afternoon the next day (I take it at night). Aside from that it has helped me tremendously.

Thanks for the feedback! I had a PCP apt and spoke with my doctor today who said just go on 50mg since I’m already on 25. I did 50 for a short time just wasn’t feeling well, hard to describe how off I felt and went to 25 a few months ago. Maybe I will call and see if there’s something different I can take since I know 50 is therapeutic but maybe seems like it is too much for me! I’ll ask about Prozac or something else that I can wean off of Zoloft and on to another medication

A wonderful psychiatrist told me a great predictor of what may work for you is what medication your parent or sibling has had success with because your body chemistry is so similar.

This is a very good point. Zoloft works very well for my Mom and sister. I, personally, do not want to go on any more medication again. I will talk about it with my doctor at the next appointment.

Effexor made me lose weight both times I took it (lost 30 pounds). The second time I was on it, I just couldn’t eat. I’m off it now and my appetite has come back after months of withdrawals (that crap takes a while to get out of your brain) and brain zaps. Effexor made me pace around the house. I would pace for hours and clean. Sure, I got my stuff done, but it was absolutely insane.

OP if you are feeling funny now, ask more questions at your doctor. That is really important. When you want to go get off the meds, really, really ask how it will be. Getting off that is no fun.

My DH was on effexor a few years ago and he went on a weekend trip with my dad and brother and forgot his pills. OMG one night and he said he felt like he was having the flu. He had to go to a pharmacy and they called our local pharmacy and insurance and authorized a few days worth of pills.

He eventually weaned off and was on Klonapin and Prozac. He's now on CBD supplements.

weaning off is the worse. It does take time to get used to adjusted dosages.

I took Effexor as a migraine preventative (not that it worked) and getting off of it was a NIGHTMARE!!!! It took weeks and weeks and weeks and even after I was off of it I felt weird for a while after. I was cutting the pills to lower the dosage bc the side effects were so bad when getting off of it and my doctor wrote out a complicated weaning schedule. I was switched by a neurologist to another commonly used med for depression right away - an irresponsible neuro and I never went back - and I wound up in the ER with serotonin syndrome.

My neurologist tried me on Zoloft for migraines too and I also felt weird after stopping it although I only took 25mg. But it was nowhere as bad as Effexor, not even close.

Re: Zoloft

I wouldn’t be surprised if Effexor gets sued one of these days. There are tons of stories out there about people that had similar problems.
