Zantac

If your infant/newborn was or is on Zantac:

1- How long did it take to start showing improvement?

2- Did you give it straight into the mouth or put it inside of a bottle?

3- Did it help or did you have to move on to something else?


my 5 week old has been on zantac for 2 days now. At first I started to see a little improvement. But today was a really bad day for her. Pretty much worse than she normally is. Ped also is having us switch to Enfamil AR today. I hate all of this stress and just want her to get better already.

Zantac

Im so sorry -- this is so tough. I put my DS on AR in conjunction with the Zantac. I gave the Zantac right into his mouth bc he accepted it. I put Gas Drops into the bottle which eliminated excess bubbles.
It took a few days and i saw improvement. We did have to increase the dose a few times, bc as they grow and gain weight the dosage needs to change.

Also, edited to add: have you tried gerber soothe drops (probiotics)? They also helped a lot. They are pricey, but worth it to us. I still have my son on a probiotic -- but now it is powder.

Zantac

DS1 was on it till he was a 10 months. Ds2 is still on it---just turned a year and we just had to increase his already substantial dose.

If you can give it right in be mouth (squirt it toward cheek and put a paci in). If you put it in a bottle and your child doesn't finish then he/she isn't getting full dose. Also, you should be giving zantac 30 min before feeding. If you have to mix it, then mix 2 ounces or so and put it with that (or the number of ounces you are SURE child will drink).

When we finally had right dose we saw a difference within 3 days.

Ds1 had to be switched to Alimentum. On top of that we had to put rice cereal in bottle. We started with Similar Advance, then Similac Sensitive, then Gentlease, then Alimentum

Ds2--had to ultimately be on Neocate. We started with Similac Advance, then Similac Sensitive, then Gentlease, then Alimentum and finally Neocate. We did rice for a bit but once zantac dose was good we didn't need it anymore.

We also didnGerber Soothe probiotic drops daily. Those helped a bunch.

Re: Zantac

1. A couple of days, but we had to increase the dosage pretty quickly. And we also changed to Nutramigen.

2. For DS, he always drained his bottles so I put it into his bottles since I knew he'd get a full dose. DD rarely finishes a bottle, so she gets it straight into her mouth, then drinks her bottle to wash the taste away.

3. It helped!

Zantac

A couple of days def until I seen any improvement. BUT my dd was also switched to Alimentum (I decided to change formula) THAT was the final change that made a huge difference for my dd.
She was sooo gassy and uncomfortable. Always crying. BAD days were horrible. It took over a month of torture to finally find what worked. To finally trust my gut.
My dd had the following signs:
Severe gas
Explosive diarrhea
up at night crying in pain
projectile throw up
spit up so bad it came out her mouth and nose she would stop breathing
she couldn't sleep flat
she ate constantly but not in large quantities
spit up after every bottle

I did my own research and found out she didn't have severe reflux she had mild reflux BUT had a dairy protein intolerance NOT an allergy (though checking for blood in the stool proves nothing). I changed her to alimentum and zantac small dose, within 1 week I had a brand new baby. She slept 6 hour stretches at night. She didn't spit up as much. NEVER had explosive diarrhea again (besides the 1 time she got a stomach bug) NEVER had a bad day as bad as those early days when I didn't know what was wrong.
