Your filing system?
I feel like I have too much paperwork. Do I really need a years worth of Lipa bills and credit card bills. What should I keep and for how long?

I used to keep everything forever!! Now I toss practically everything. I can't deal with "filing". I keep mortgage statements, bank statements, pay stubs and about 3 months of utility bills - everything else goes in the shredder!

I keep everything for a year...in my current files...thenin Jan I take it all out and put it in one file folder and put it in a bakers box. At that point I take the oldest folder out, and shread all the stuff in it.
My Tax returns, tax bills and other important papers are of course kept seperate.

I keep a year and then shred.

I got this from a financial book, and I generally use it as a guideline:
Throw out now:
•Old phone bills (unless you intend to deduct a portion of your phone bill on taxes)
•Supermarket receipts
•Utility bills
Throw out after one year:
•Cancelled checks (except those you need for tax or insurance purposes)
•Store receipts and credit card statements (except those you need for tax or insurance purposes or for proof of purchase necessary for a warranty)
Throw out after three years:
•Bank Statements (which you may need to produce if you are audited)
Save forever:
•Birth certificates
•College transcripts
•Credit card agreements (for as long as you have the card)
•Diplomas
•Divorce decree and property agreement
•Home improvement receipts (if you own your home)
•Home inventory
•Insurance policies
•Loan agreements
•Marriage certificate
•Passport (current one)
•Pension plan and retirement plan documents
•Receipts for major purposes (that you will need as proof in case of fire or burglary)
•Social Security card
•Stock Purchase agreements
•Tax returns, additional tax forms and supporting documentation (although you can probably throw out supporting documentation , like some receipts, 3 years after you file)
•Warranties (for as long as they last)
•Work performance reviews, memos on job performance
•Year end pay stubs and bonus statements
•Year-end transaction statements from mutual fund companies

I usually keep a years worth of bills. After a year I shred everything up. I used to save everything, and it was getting a little out of hand!
