You think 1,000 people are going to be calling

the house after the baby is born?

I am not looking forward to this at all.

I can just imagine my parents, my MIL, my sisters, calling every day to check in on me to be nice, or stopping by ... when all I'll want to do is get the hang of being a new mom BFing, being alone w/the baby or w/DH. How do deal w/this??

I have the same concern. If I do breastfeed, I already know that many of those people in my life won't be supportive but they will show up. DH will support me, though.

Honestly this is what worked for me... I had DH answer all phone calls. If I didn't feel like talking then he told them I was sleeping or I was busy and that I would call them back when I could. As far as people wanting to come over, you need to be firm about what works for YOU. If your not up to the company them tell them that... your family should be understanding of how you feel.

I dread this also. Thank goodness for caller ID for the phone calls. As for people just showing up, I will have to be very clear from the beginning that I will invite people over once I feel up to it. Plus it will be winter time so maybe people wont be inclined to go out in the cold weather.

I think you have to try to look at it in a positive way, everyone is calling because they are all happy for you and care about you.

If it gets out of control then you can do what others said and turn the ringer off or explain to everyone that your not being rude but you need to just relax and take some time for yourself and the baby.

i know what you mean. my parents live 4 blocks away - i've already surrendered to the fact that i can't keep my mother away from her first grandchild unless she can't find a place to park the car which is common in Brooklyn

i think its common for new parents to turn the ringer off (the baby was napping etc. and i was in the shower) they'll get the hint.

it has been one month since the baby is born, and i still have (no joke) about 30 -40 people I owe phone calls to

I know people are probably mad, but the entire day flies by with a little one

BTW--when you are BF'ing, you are going to want NO ONE around!!!

it was so difficult to do with 10000 people in my house

I'm going to let the machine pick up most of the calls but I think most people will understand that you have your hands full and adjusting to the new addition if you don't return their call right away.

I'm not crazy about the phone either but I have my days. I'm more worried about people showing up unannounced! I know people are anxious to see the baby and wish you well and maybe even help but I sort of like my privacy.

I'll have my mother in law visiting (most likely... not sure how I feel about it yet) so I'll make her answer the phone.

But about visitors, I need to find a way to make sure our friends don't stop by with their germy kids (every time we go to their house we get sick). I'll tell them our doctor advised against it, which she actually may.
