"You can have 'em!"

I was asking an acquaintance how her infant was doing. She also has 2 other kids; she's so frazzled every time I see her that we can speak for about 1 minute only (even if she's alone). she tells me about what's been happening with the baby, I tell her the one kid with her is real cute, then she looks me in the eye and says "You can have em!"

She was so serious. I mean not serious in take em, but serious like omg I can't take much more.

I will never know what being a parent is like (that's by choice) but after conversations like this I go home and say, yeah i love me some peace n quiet n hubby.

Re: "You can have 'em!"

I do plan to have children. Dh, wants them sooner. I'm realy happy right now to not have them, but stuff like that is what makes me doubt or makes me push it off more. I don't know if it's facebook or what, but all I see from parents is how miserable they are and how the kids are puking 5x a night and I just thank god for the blessed silence of me and DH alone in our apt

I honestly think it is the fact that it is the third DC. Every friend of mine with three has that same look. I think it takes a while for things to get back to normal when the number of kids outnumbers the parents.

I was never that bad but then again I only have 2 kids lol.
BUT....I HAVE told my co-workers (who have no kids and they outnumber the ones who do have kids by A LOT) (and have NO clue about kids whatsoever and just have that "cute" niece or nephew who they see every few months lol) they can have my kids for a week and then let me know how easy it is. lol

Re: "You can have 'em!"

I, too, love peace and quiet at home with just DH and the cats. If I spend time with small kids, when I leave them, it's like the same relief as when we leave the IL's house...a loud sigh, like "we made it out alive!" Ha!

But I also love that last night, it was past 9:00 and I was drumming away downstairs with not a care in the world...no need to worry about waking a baby or anything.

Having kids just isn't for us. No one has told us "you have have them!" probably because they know we'd be terrible at keeping them alive. Chat Icon
