Yoga????
After 2 kids and 4 years of doing NOTHING for myself - I decided that 2011 is the year I need to lose weight and regain some sanity. I'm thinking of trying Yoga for both the mental and physical benefits, but all the different types are overwhelming me!! So all you Yoga fans please give me some advice. I'm not in LI so I'm looking more for what type of yoga works for a beginner that's looking to tone/lose weight and de-stress!
Thanks!!

Re: Yoga????
Most yoga studios have a class geared for lay people wanting to get in shape.... Why don't you start by finding studios in your area that are convenient to ger to, have classes that work with your schedule, and contact them for trial classes and packages? They usually offer great things for beginners. You might want to check this out too... Passporttoprana.com - you can get a passport for thirty dollars to take a class at every participating yoga studio... It only is worth your while if there are a lot of nearby participating studios.
I did a search for every yoga studio in my area, compared class times, and found a class that worked for me that way

Re: Yoga????
I go to a hot yoga studio. The class is the same class every time, and is geared to beginners and anyone really, as it's always challenging, but at the same time, what you make of it.
They offer a special----$20.00 for 10 days of unlimited classes.
You really need to go that many times to decide if you love or hate this style of yoga.

Re: Yoga????
I'm a yoga instructor and i always recommend beginners take a basic hatha yoga class. sometimes its labeled as beginner yoga. that way you get a basic idea of poses and breathing. then for weight loss, a vinyasa is great. they are a constant flow of motion class. bikram and hot yoga are good too because the heat helps you sweat out toxins while getting in a good workout. i'd suggest bikram first though because the poses are always the same so you'll get used to the flow quickly. some gyms and studios offer power yoga which focuses on the physical toning aspect of yoga. any questions, feel free to ask me! let me know how it goes once you try it!
