Yeast infection/diaper rash?
DD2 is 2 weeks old and has a nasty diaper rash. Her ped said that it's caused by yeast. I asked what I could do about it, and she told me to use diaper cream liberally. I've gone through half a tub of Triple Paste, polished off my A&D, and even tried breast milk... and nada. Anyone know any cures for this?

Yeast infection/diaper rash?
Emerson gets those infections and the only thing that clears them up is fungal cream. The kinds for athletes foot and such. And you have to use is daily for weeks or it will come bavk again and again and aagain. Good luck

You can try lotramin first. (I usually get genetic) That's usually what works for DS. The name brand script isn't covered by my insurance and the generic worked just the same as OTC imo.
I put the lotramin on first and then put a layer of a&d not rubbing the a & d too much.
If the dr knew it was yeast I'm surprised she said to just do plain cream. It isnt going to heal it at all.

THis!! It took a little longer then a day, but it was much quicker. Be VERY careful to wash your hands like crazy. It is very common to get the same thing on your nipples and in their mouth if BFing. I had a horrible experience with this. My girls never got it, but I had to stop nursing and only pump while I had it.

my dr just says to get lotramin and cortisone cream. That's what the prescrption is. always works

ITA - Nystatin works like magic on the yeast diaper rash - heals it up really quickly!

If it's just a regular diaper rash, keep it dry, don't use baby wipes (just a cloth with water when there's poop), and pile on the butt paste or desitin to keep moisture from touching the rash. If it's really red and there are raw, red spots, get yourself a prescription for Nystatin. It'll clear it up in a day.

Yes, this! Both my boys had them as newborns and Nystatin worked like a charm.

My DD gets them often unfortunately. Lotrimin AF (it's OTC by the athlete's foot stuff) always clears it up. Regular diaper cream will do nothing for it. But you can't just use it until it clears up. My ped has us use it 3 times a day for 3 weeks to make sure all of the yeast is killed off and it won't return.

I'm a little shocked your ped would tell you to put regular diaper cream on a yeast rash! Its the worst thing you can do.
You need anti-fungal cream asap.

for a yeast infection like that diaper cream wont cut it. they should give you a script for an anti fungal. DS had to get Nystatin(sp?) something like that when he had a fungal diaper rash. Cleared it up lickety split...

My DD suffers from them too. It breaks my heart. My ped told us to use lotrimin. I am not sure since your little girl is so small if she can use it, but I would ask. You will see a difference quick.

My pediatrician told me that nystatin is the same as monistat and that I could use monistat on DD's yeast infection. I bought the target brand (the yeast infection target brand that comes with 3 suppositories and a tube of external cream) works great. I threw out the suppositories and just use the external cream. Once you can identify it as a yeast infection you will know what to look for and not feel the urge to go to the pediatrician if it comes back :O)
Also, I would be giving her some air time and make sure she is dry after you clean her off. What I do is change the diaper, wipe off her bum with a wipe or wash cloth and then use a viva paper towel or another dry washcloth to blot off her bum. Make sure she is totally dry before you put her diaper back on. Let her tush get some air for a while for the changes that you don't use the cream. Being dry and out in the air really helps.
What I do when my girls had them since the creams are 3x a day. I would use the cream first thing in the morning, mid day and the last change before bed. The other times I would make sure she was totally dry before putting the diaper back on.
However if it's just a regular rash and not a yeast infection then try desitin extra strength. A yeast infection is usually more raised, have bumps and/or white spots.
