yay or nay on these boots
I need a classic boot.
But I also am undecided about a riding boot for more casual

I like them both, but I think the first one is more of a motorcycle boot than a riding boot because of the heavy buckle.

Yeah, I'd definitely consider the top boot an MC boot, which is a lot more casual.
I prefer the 2nd boot of the two.

both arrived today in the mail and the motorcycle boot I don't is me...even though it was comfortable.
#2 is so high though. I wish I wasn't so self-conscious about being 5'8"

Yeah...and??? 
You're pouting to the wrong gal.  I'm 3" taller than my DH and I wear 4" heels all the time. Does your DH not like you being that much taller? Or are you the one that doesn't like it?
