No just kidding...how about just CONGRATULATIONS

Keep it simple...

MIL wants to contribute to the dessert for DD's baptism and asked what we want written on the cake. DH and i are not really religious and want no part of "God Bless..." on our food.

can anyone suggest any non-religious cute wording for the cake? thanks!

I'm not trying to sound mean or anything, but if your not religious why are you baptizing then? It is a religious occassion where "God Bless DD" would be appropriate.

Maybe a simple Congratulations DD

Re: cake writing help...

I like "welcome DD"

It can be perceived different ways:

Welcome to the world
or
Welcome to Christianity - let everyone fill in the blank.

But in the end, very few people see the cake before it's cut. LOL

Good Luck

Re: cake writing help...

I read what you wrote about you not wanting to incorporate religion too much...and beliieve me, i really am trying to understand what you mean and i don't want you to take this the wrong way...but a baptism couldn't be a more religious event in a persons life...with God as the center of what its all about. "God Bless DD/DS" is a sweet and completely appropriate saying for this type of event, same as a communion/confirmation. After all its a very holy sacrament!

With that being said....of course you could always say "congratulations DD"..its your perogative...I just didn't really understand how the big issue would be avoiding the words "god bless" when the whole thing is about religion...

Re: cake writing help...

How about just a cross and some flowers and DD's name on the cake somewhere? Or have a pic of DD in her gown on the cake with some flowers and skip any writing at all.

I thought it was hysterical, but I'm a heathen.... DD & DS were baptized with a God Bless cake nonetheless.Chat Icon

I think the name & the crosses vs the Congratulations.

Re: cake writing help...

I also think it would be really nice to put a cross and the babie's name and then just have flowers on the cake....or the idea of having the babie's photo on the cake is GREAT and most bakeries do that now!

it's more for the sake of tradition and joining a specific ethnic community then for purely religious reasons.

my family is lutheran and we are less focused on ornamentation and scripture. MIL on the other hand is an extremely religious catholic. i view our form of lutheranism "catholic-lite" and incorporate some aspects of the traditions to our lives but am not religious by any stretch of the imagination. DH grew up catholic but does not practice at all, so we are basically on the same page...

If your child is being baptized, than she is being blessed by God and you are affirming that in the ceremony. I do understand that you may not be particularly "religious", but, what I don't understand is how the words "God Bless" on a cake would not be appropriate for this occasion when those exact words are used in the Baptismal Ceremony and when you will actually be blessing your child? Words on a cake are not what's important and any words will do. I guess I just don't understand your point.

my point was that i personally do not wish to have the words "God Bless" on my cake and was looking for cute non-religious verbiage ideas...

thanks for the ideas ladies! Chat Icon

Then that's what you should have stated and not gotten into the whole "religious" aspect if you didn't want feedback on it. Anyway, hope you have a pleasant day!
