Xpost: Rotating shifts at a hospital

I didn't get any responses the other day so I thought I'd ask here since I know some of you are in the medical field.

What does that mean when a hospital posts a job and the shift is rotating? I obviously know that you rotate but do you rotate days and nights all week long or do you rotate all days one week and all nights another? Thanks!

I believe it is usually days one week, nights another, etc. But you never know. They may need different shifts covered at different times of the week. You would really have to ask the place offering the job.

There were several articles written years ago about how harmful it is to a person to have to keep switching days and nights in the same week, so I think most places don't do that anymore.

My brother is a cop and he is one week days, one week nights, but he has the same 2 days off each week.

When he was on foot patrol, it was 5 days on, 2 days off, 5 days on, 3 days off. The time switched between the 3 shifts (day, night, graveyard) every week too. I don't know how he kept it straight.

You can work the day evening or night shift depending on the coverage they need.
