we had a neutral outfit, that way no matter what DC could wear it ! here is my little guy in his monkey outfit:

I entrusted my Mom to pick out the take home outfit once he/she was born.
The other option would have been to pick out a boy and a girl outfit and return whichever you don't need.

This is what I did. But Ann ended up being so small, DH had to bring the only newborn sized thing we had at home!

I had one of each ready to go, but left them at home with the tags on. DH gave it to my mom to wash and brought to the hospital the day we came home and we returned the other outfit
