xpost from teachers- lesson plan help needed

Anyone who can give me some ideas, because I am drawing a blank on something somewhat creative... it would be greatly appreciated.

The students will be reading a short story, "The Moustache" by Robert Cormier. It deals with the theme of aging, guilty feelings within a relationship between grandson and grandmother, nursing homes-

I have comprehension questions and I am also going to have excerpts taken from the selection and will have students in groups interpret the meaning and present their findings and their views to the class informally...

HOWEVER, I would like to do something with discussion questions... related to the theme, the story, and the author's work in general...

How can I make this discussion question activity more exciting. I don't want simple answer and lets talk about it- I want to do something more creative, but can't think of anything. I have the questions already so if you need them to help me out I can post them..

ANY help would be so great!

PS- this is grade 7 language arts

What about having it relate to their own lives and relationships with older people-
Doesn't have to be Grandparents, could be Aunts, Uncles, neighbors, etc.
I always find 7th graders to relate better when it invovles "them"Chat Icon

I agree with that!Chat Icon

I tried to make the discussion questions relate to their lives/society-very universal-
but I can't seem to come up with anything creative for it!Chat Icon
