Ok, thanks. I have been accused of so much lately that it makes me pause for a moment every now and then and question myself. I really try my hardest to remain neutral and cordial, as much as he tries to bait me into arguments.

Agreed. Additionally, since he has already made accusations, I would save this e-mail (and any others like it) in case you need them in the future as a reference for his attitude.

oh trust me, I have. I have a file on him that's as large as a file cabinet, in anticipation of his grievance/litigation. The FIFTH grievance he has filed against various supervisors in thiis office, I might add.

I don't think you were nasty AT ALL. I don't see how anyone can read your email and think it was nasty. You stated the facts which he did not adhere to.
You're going to have to develop a million set of eyes for that one. Seems like he's looking for any excuse to not do his work and get you in trouble for it.
