Re: X-post Real estate schools
I am an attorney, so I didn't have to take the courses or pass the licensing exam (requirements are waived for attorneys licensed in NY -- we are automatically brokers).
So with that caveat, that I don't have first-hand experience, I know that a lot of agents in my office took the classes at LISOR in Levittown (Long Island School or Real Estate). It's on Hempstead Tpke (right next to Miller's Ale House).
You don't need a sponsoring broker to take the classes, but I think you can get a discount on your tuition if a broker recommends you to the real estate school.
Feel free to FM if you have any questions. Not sure where you are looking to work, but I am located in North Bellmore and do a lot of work on the south shore of Nassau and central Nassau. My manager is great -- she conducts a lot of hands on training and provides mentoring, and it's really a nice (not cut throat) office environment. So if you are interested in learning more, let me know! We're always looking for good people.
ETA: You can also do the classes online.

This is where I got my license 10 years ago.

Re: X-post Real estate schools
Thanks Christine. I am actually way out in Suffolk County, Rocky Point. There is a Century 21 right near me, but not yours. I wish I didn't have to take the classes, I already have 3 degrees!! But this is something I really have wanted to do for a long time and think I will be very good at. Thanks again.

No problem! Even though I can't recruit you, feel free to contact me if you want to talk more about the career change -- pros and cons, etc. I struggled with my decision to change careers, but now (despite some tradeoffs I've made) I am very happy I did it!

Re: X-post Real estate schools
I took the class online thru Kaplan
I am more local to you- I think we have spoken about this a few months ago
I would be happy to have you come to my office in smithtown and talk to you about the oppertunities Exit offers
it's the most agent focused company and the fastest growing in the country
I turned down just about every other agency to come here in July and I will be happy to tell you why

Re: X-post Real estate schools
Thanks Beth. Yes we did speak a few weeks back. You were a big help in my decision. Right now I think I am going to enroll in the classes and then start looking around for a sponsor. I think it would be better for me to be in an area that is more local to me than Smithtown. Not to mention that I know nothing of that area. But I really do appreciate the offer. You have been so helpful. I am sure that I will have a million more questions so I'm sure I will be picking your brain from time to time if you don't mind. Thanks again.
