x-post - 33 weeks pregnant and dr is no longer delivering...

I'm 33 weeks pregnant. At my check up yesterday, my doctor let me know that his entire practice will no longer be delivering. He's affiliated with LIJ. So now theres no chance that I'll be delivered by any doctor that I've actually seen throughout my pregnancy. My issue is that I stuck with this doctor in Great Neck when I moved from Queens to Massapequa park. So right now I have to travel about 35 minutes for Dr's appointments and when the time comes, about 40 minutes away to a hospital and i won't even have my doctor there. Is it worth it to even think about switching this late in the game? Ugh.

That stinks! The least they could do is deliver the women that are currently pregnant in their practice - but not take new pregnant women on KWIM? But, if that's not the case then I would definetely switch. You still have a few weeks to get to know another doctor. I wouldn't feel comfortable with a strange doctor delivering me.

I have a great doctor in Great Neck. Not sure if you still want to do the commute though. FM me if you want their info.

Good Luck.

Oh... who do you go to? My OB is in Woodbury and delivered me at LIJ? Dr Cohen?? If that's him... I love him! Oh, and he's cute too. LOL

Call Dr. Irwin Goldstein in Massapequa on Grand Ave. 516-798-3376 He delivers at LIJ Plainview and he's great. 2 minutes from your house and the hospital is really close too.
When weekly visits start, you are not going to want to drive to Great Neck every week.

If you plan on having a natural delivery I wouldn't worry about it.
I was in labor (induced) 11 hours and the nurses did all the work. I had a great delivery nurse that coached me for 45 minutes then the doctors came in and gave me an episiotomy and caught the baby. I have no clue who the doctors were.

I am sorry to hear this happened to you. I had to switch OBs at 20 something weeks with DD because my OB could no longer afford the malpractice insurance on LI to do OB. She decided to just do gyn. I was scared and angry at first but it was the best thing that happened. My new OB was fantastic and I have never been more comfortable.

Another poster and I had the same thing happen - the practice we were at stopped delivering. With 8 weeks left to go she was forced to find another OB. I had 18 weeks to go, and for very special reasons became the very last OB patient in the entire practice.

I moved at 32 weeks with twins and a host of other complications. I was on Lovenox and had the beginnings of preeclampsia and my Dr took over seamlessly. He ended up delivering me at 35.3 weeks via emergency c-section and everything went great and i loved the practice. If you can find someone to take you don't worry about it.

There is nothing wrong with making a switch at this point. I encourage you to do so. I was nervous about doing it to, and I didn't, and ended up with what I feel may have been an unnecessary c-section. In hind sight I wish I switched even at 39 weeks, and I'll tell anyone that if there is any reason to switch, do it.

This happened to my sister at methodist in brooklyn. She had an easy delivery, but the ob/gyn was a jerk about the circumcision. Just stay strong and know that you will deliver a healthy, happy baby despite this minor setback! Chat Icon Chat Icon
