WWYD- daycare
The daycare we want is full :( But they may have openings before our anticipated start date (they only require 2 week notice)
We can get on top of the waiting list by going to another location, 20 mins further / extra driving and putting in for a "transfer".
The cost of the further one is a bit less.
We know that other people (friend) are also on top of waiting list to get more days @ the one we want.
We need an early march start date.
Every other daycare in proximity is higher cost, at least by $50-100 per week depending on # days. we are starting at 2-3 days, may increase to 5 in a few months.
They all have deposits and registration fees.
WWYD?

Couple of things...... would the hours of the one that is farther work with your schedule because I presume it would take an additional 20 minutes to get there (more of an issue of picking up at night before they close). Have you gone to the other location and do you also like that location? Does your child react well to change. My son has been in day care for 2 1/2 years and I have seen alot of kids starting and there is usually a few days at least sometimes more that is transition. For me I would not want to start my child one place and then possibly a month or two later switching again.

How old is your child? If an infant, I think it would be fine to switch once the preferred place opens up. If a toddler or older, I wouldn't want to switch once he is happy and comfortable with one place. My son is 1 and I think he would have a hard time starting over at a new place at this point.

I put myself on the wait list at the one I wanted and then registered at another place in town. I ended up getting my first choice before and withdrew from the one I registered. I was actually on 3 wait lists to make sure I at least had a spot.

yes, and either way we'd be paying for 10 hrs a day (using 8 1/2-9 1/2 depending on location)
we are visiting the other location next week.
he is only 1 yo and is OK with different daytime schedules, but so far bad with different night schedules/ sleepovers

If its not too much trouble to travel the extra 20 minutes then I'd probably do the transfer if there wasn't a long wait and you love the original place. Did they let you know how long until they anticipate an opening? Like when another child moves up to an older age group?

They dont know because they may transition or split a room bc a lot of kids are aging up at same time.
no contract makes it kinda random.

Do you need to put a deposit down to be on the waiting list? I know by me you do not need to. I was on two waiting lists before we enrolled DS in daycare. Both had spots when the time came.
Personally for me, the extra 40 minutes of travel time would KILL me so I would look for a different daycare. Taking into account traffic, bad weather, you could be looking at an hour. That's an hour I would prefer to spend with my DC or doing just about anything else (grocery shopping, working out, etc).

not sure on deposit...we asked but i forget... but if we are transferring then for sure no.
also this extra travel would be on me... and the other location would be on DW... and it's literally 4 blocks from where DS currently goes (family's house)....

when I worked in Daycare, we had a mom on the wait list and she put her child in another place until a spot opened. It was fine. I would do it that too

I would find another daycare TBH. It just sounds like too much moving around. But I also know I couldn't do the extra 20 mins.

To be on the waitlist I didn;t need to pay. The one we actually ended up signing up for and pulling out refunded all my money but it all happened within a few days

Re: WWYD- daycare
We did #1. I put DS on the list when I was 15 weeks pregnant. We wanted the daycare right up the block but they were full (always are) and the same owners/operators had another location that was opening, so we started him there. The week before he started I got the call that there was an opening at the one we wanted 1 month after he started. Worked out great!

well it worked out -- they have an opening for april. So we are either going to have MIL do 5 days for a couple weeks OR go to the other facility for a few weeks :)
