WWYD? (crib related)
I'm torn between getting 2 white $199 cribs from Target and getting nice dressers from Behr or BBB and just buying headboards when we out the girls in real beds. OR getting 2 white $400 (or so) convertable cribs now with that same furniture. I figure plain white headboards are easy to find and not too expensive and we can save $ not getting convertable cribs now. Decisions..decisions....

Re: WWYD? (crib related)
I got a ton of different opinions on this when I was expecting my first. Here's the route I went, I got a regular crib that converted to a toddler bed. The reason I decided to do this was because I'm pretty fickle when it comes to home design and couldn't commit to how I would want my kids rooms to look 5-10 years down the road. I wanted the freedom to pick a design later on. Secondly, kids are hard on furniture, I wasn't sure if the investment would be worth it. I already owned a Stanley Young America dresser in white so I used that and it matched perfectly with the white crib.
I'll also tell you that a lot of the cribs that do convert to twins/fulls with a headboard are large so unless you have a large nursery planned getting both of those cribs in one room could be tight and leave you little room for other furniture.
Hope this helps!

Good plan.
I only have one, but got DD a white crib that would convert to a toddler bed. We got it from BRU. DD chews on it, throws her sippy and toys at it, and generally beats it to hell. It's holding up really well though and it'll be fine for DC 2.

Re: WWYD? (crib related)
I know a lot of people disagree on this.
For me, I am thinking of going pretty cheap on baby furniture. We aren't in our forever home, so I'm not sure what size room baby will be in when he/she is 4+ yrs old. I have no idea if a full size bed would even fit.
I'm thinking of using a dresser I have, buying a cheaper crib, hopefully that converts to a toddler bed and then getting nicer furniture once the child is a bit older.
I have heard, if you do buy the convertible crib, buy the rails now to change it into a bed. Just in case the company stops making them/goes out of business you will have everything you need to take advantage of your initial investment.
I do agree with your point, white headboard would be easy to match and you could even get a wood colored furniture, since white is so neutral.

Re: WWYD? (crib related)
I love my DD's (expensive ) convertible crib and we definitely plan on converting it to a full bed when she's ready. We went the cheap route with DS's bed and while it was fine and functional, I always wished we had spent a bit more so we wouldn't have to get a whole new bedroom set when he was ready for a bed. I would spend a bit more now to save more later - headboards can get pretty expensive!

Re: WWYD? (crib related)
We bought expensive furniture sets for both and chose convertible cribs. DS hated his crib, but loves the bed. It converted to a full size bed. The furniture has held up nicely and will definitely last for years. I hope this baby will get more use out of the crib, but even if the baby follows in his/her brother's footsteps, I know we will at least get plenty of use out of it once it converts to the bed.

Baby bargains says not to bother if it's just going to convert to a toddler bed because you can probably move to a twin by then.

Re: WWYD? (crib related)
Three years ago I got DD a beautiful fancy schmancy Stanley Crib from Behrs. It was pricey, don't remember how much.
Now, DD is 2.5 climbed out of her crib and we needed to convert it to a toddler bed ASAP. Called Behr's, didn't have rails in stock, had to have them special ordered. Called Stanley, same thing. It took 6 weeks to come and was damaged. The sent us another one that just came, damaged. I am beyond frustrated.
Moral of the story - I learned the hard way that being more expensive (the toddler bed conversion kit is almost $200 itself ) does not mean its better, regardless of good reviews.
DS that is due in 4 months is getting his crib from Ikea. I have several friends who have this, and have had no problems, and they don't need a conversion kit to turn it into a todder bed.
Get the cheap cribs!!!

Re: WWYD? (crib related)
When I was pregnant with K, we bought a 4 piece super expensive set. The crib converted into a full size bed.
Now, for DD #2, we bought a $150 crib from Buy Buy Baby, and a $125 changing table. The crib only converts to a toddler day bed, but I'm fine with it because her room is SUPER small, so a full wouldn't fit.

Re: WWYD? (crib related)
We found a Graco convertible crib that we love for only $170 at Baby Depot. But we don't plan to convert it to a full sized bed anyway. We'll definitely use it as a toddler bed, but after that we'll need to buy a twin bed since a full sized bed wouldn't fit in DD's small room. We didn't see a need to buy expensive baby furniture. And we read in the Baby Bargains book that all cribs sold in the US have to meet the same safety regulations by law, so it doesn't matter if you buy a crib for $100 or $500, it will still be just as safe. If you look around a little more you can find cribs that aren't too expensive and are convertible. This the one we got, it got very good ratings Graco Convertible Crib
