I'm looking to buy some clothes for the winter for my DS.

He's 31", and in some places that falls into the 18-24 month range, but his weight is only 23 pounds, closer to the 12-18 month range.

Which size would you recommend buying? DH says to get the larger ones, but I feel like he's going to be swimming in the width of it - and I don't want to be left with winter clothes that will only start to fit in August. Then again, I don't want shirts that don't cover his belly this season either, Chat Icon, lol.

Just curious on some opinions!

DD is very similar in size. Almost 24 pounds and 31.5 inches. She's mostly in 12-18 for pants. She's got plenty of length and the ones with the elastic inside are great to tighten the waste. Most of hers are carters. For tops, the 12-18 are getting to be small but still fit and 18-24 are big but I still put them on her. I like the carters multi pack onesies since they're slimmer, I find the a lot of the onesies that come in outfits are bigger especially in width. I would probably buy 12-18 pants and 18-24 tops.

I would buy bigger. Rather grow into it than out of it quickly.

My DS is similar, he is tall, at his 1 year appt he was 32 inches and 21.5 lbs.. but at that point he was wearing 18 months because the 12 months stuff was just too short on him. I would prob go with the 18 months.

He's 14.5 months now and we are starting to move him into 24 months believe it or not.

I'd buy the size up, for length. My thought is that the smaller size might fit better right now, but you can wear winter clothes through March some years, and the larger size will probably last, while the smaller size may not.

Thank you, everyone!

I'm going to get the size up in shirts, definitely.

i think it depends on where the clothes are from... my son is similarly sized (weighs about 2 lbs less) and I swear by H&M kids clothes because they are stretchy, fairly long (pants especially) and fit better than other brands. There he wears 12-18 months (yes, and some 9-12 months still bc they are cut big) and in Carter's 18 month old stuff is still big sometimes.
