WWYD: B-day party date

I am due with Chat Icon 7 days before DD's 3rd b-day. I am due on the 21st, and with DD I was due on the 20th, but I was 8 days late with her. I know there's no way of knowing, but I just feel like I'll go close to my due date with this one (she's measuring bigger already, etc)...so even if I have her ON my due date, that's 6/21 (7 days before DD's b-day). I had a vaginal delivery, no c-section, and I hope for the same (shorter hospital stay!)

So, DD's b-day is on a Monday (6/28). Would you have the party on Sunday, 6/27 and hope that you're not in the hospital with #2 still (I am determined that even if I have a newborn at home for 1-2 days before the party that with the help I normally get, she's still going to get her awesome party at home!).

Or would you push her party back a week? Only problem with that is that the following weekend is 4th of July weekend-- I'd have it on Saturday, July 3rd. But is that weekend tough for people? It would pretty much guarantee that I will NOT be in the hospital with #2 on this date.

We normally have about 30 adults and 8 or so kids...mostly just close family members (all live on LI) and friends with similar-age kids (all live on LI except one family, but they have family here so they may be coming here anyway for the holiday weekend).

I really prefer to have it the day before her b-day b/c it's closer to her actual day, but I'm just nervous I MAY be in the hospital still.

I'd do it 4th of July weekend, if you think you will have enough help to pull it off. You will have a brand new baby to entice them to come. Chat Icon

Unless of course you don't want so many people around the baby, then I would do it earlier.

I agree but if you feel like you will not be able to pull it off because of the brand new baby then I would push it until the 10th.

Oh, I'll definitely be able to pull it off...I am determined to make this b-day party as great as her others have been. I'm just concerned about being in the hospital for the party, that's why I was considering the date the week later.

So funny, I didn't even consider this. Isn't it too long after her b-day though? I'd just feel weird since it's 2 weeks after her actual b-day. But apparently you guys don't think it's weird so I am clueless Chat Icon

I agree-this way you know you will be home. I don't think it is too long afterwards either.

Or, I would do it two weeks before so you can pretty much bank on not having had the baby yet.

July 3rd so we can come. Chat Icon (and that aside, I think the 27th will be too close to bringing home DD#2!)

I would do it before....though I felt great when pregnant and was active/exercising/entertaining until labor. Some people do not feel as well during the last month! How are you feeling so far?

Also, did you consider that having the party earlier assures you that ALL the attention will be on your DD. Newborns ave away of stealing the show.Chat Icon In addition it would be disappointing if you had you had to postpone the party, or you were in the hospital. Too many variables here...If it were me and I was feeling well I would absolutely have it two weeks before my due date. Then you can celebrate again on her actual B-Day with just the three of you...or four of you!

Good Luck!!!

I agree. I think either two weeks before, or two weeks after. The great thing is she really won't know the exact day and will love her party no matter when it is. I give you so much credit for pulling off a bash with a newborn at home. Chat Icon

Why not a week before your due date? I had 2 vaginal delivers with great recovery, but I can't imagine hosting a party a few days or even a week after I deliver.
