WWYD - regarding current job & potential new offer
Just looking for other points of views:
Both positions are Civil Service
Current job - have 1.5 years in - commute is 40 min each way - need to work thru lunch to get DC off bus - work day is 7.5 hrs. In a school - when school is closed (ETA: due to weather), you're off. No OT. **ETA**Even tho in a school still work during school breaks and summer (NOT OFF)
Potential Job Offer - $6000 LESS per year - commute would be 10min each way. work day is 7 hrs - allows for getting DC off bus w/o leaving early. Not in a school. Flexibility with schedule. Potential for OT, but not required.

WWYD - regarding current job & potential new offer
I do not know your financial situation, but if you could swing it, the Job offer would be my advice as your quality of life would be better.
An hour a day less commute! A lunch break!

As long as the pay cut wouldn't effect you too much, I would go with 2. Less of a commute will save you money as well.

Re: WWYD - regarding current job & potential new offer
Salary diff would NOT make a huge difference.
also, with option for OT, COULD make up for some of that.
Also, less $ spent on gas.

In this case I'd go for option #2 for sure. I'd love a 10 min commute!

I don't know what field you are in but one of the things I'd consider is advancement potential. Do you have rooom to grow at both jobs? Can you get promoted? Does either job give raises?

#2 for sure. I work 5 minutes from my house and I would like to never commute again!! Think of gas, toll on car, and time.

its $115 a week which you would probably save in gas and wear and tear I vote for closer to home

Both jobs are civil service.
Current job has no room for advancement - 4% raise every year.
Potential job - not sure about advancement - same 4% raise annually

Need more info
You age Age of your kids & how many
I'm confused by Job#1, when school is closed, you are off but you are not off on school breaks or summer?

I would go with job 2 - less stress on you and your car, and in the grand scheme of things - after tax, a $6k difference is a lot less than $6k.

based on this, if you can swing the 6k pay cut i would def take that job

I'm 40 Kids are 7 & 2
If school is closed due to snow or 2 hr delay - I'm off or delayed as well. However, school vacations/days off other wise and summer, I still have to work

2. Hands down. My time would be worth that $6k to me (plus you might be able to have some overtime, so it would be less than a $6k cut in all likelihood)

Re: WWYD - regarding current job & potential new offer
#2 probably. But, do you have any room to negoitate?
I know its civil service, but if you are in the system already, is there a possibility they could offer you job 2 at a higher step?

I was considering this - but not sure how to go about it. I have never asked for more money at a job offer, or even asked for a raise.
How does one do such a thing??? LOL
I have not received a call with an offer, but kind of have an inside source that says I MAY get the job. He has no info or insider track on if I could ask for more $.
