WWYD - baby shower drama
My BIL's wife is pregnant and I am trying to plan a shower. My sister-in-law thinks either me or her best friend should call her mom and ask her how much money she is willing to contribute.
I said NO WAY...that should be a conversation between the two moms...hers and our MIL. I told her it would be very awkward for me to talk finances with her. I said at the very least, her brother (my BIL) should chat with the mom. It's his wife after all.
Just looking to see if I am crazy or not. I don't think I should be calling this woman. The mom to be's mother should be running this, but she lives in Florida.

If your SIL knows that she's having a shower why doesn't she just call her mom and ask? I agree it shouldn't come from you.

I would plan it without her contribution and whatever she gives is gravy.
Or, one mom should call the other and say we are thinking of blah blah blah.... how do you feel....
It shouldn't come from you.
How are the mom's with each other?

The mom's just don't see each other often becuase we all live here and she lives in Florida. But when she is up they chat away. I remember my MIL offering my mom money and talking to her about my shower and they rarely see each other.
Why I'm planning this shower is beyond me when the mom to be has two SIL's. My MIL is having me pick the place and everything before we even consult with the other Mom. I just think it is weird. Just because her mom lives in Florida doesn't mean she should be left out of the loop. I barely know her mom, so I really feel like a fool asking her anything about $$$.

IMO it's a conversation between those that want to throw her a shower - if that's you & HER mom, than you need to pick up the phone & say "We'd like to throw x a baby shower. I wasn't sure if you wanted to be involved in anything or contribute". If your MIL is throwing it, she can pick up the phone.

ITA. Remind her you are happy to help out since she is in Florida but this isn't your place. Even if she lived in NY she would do it by phone and not necessarily in person.
