Police: 2 dead in crash closing Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills

A head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver killed two people early Tuesday in Dix Hills, closing the Northern State Parkway in both directions during the morning commute, Suffolk County police said.

The two-vehicle crash happened at about 2:38 a.m., and police first closed the eastbound parkway between exits 41 and 42, a spokeswoman said.

Police then closed the westbound lanes for the investigation, she said.

The ramps to the parkway on Route 231, Deer Park Avenue, also were closed for the investigation, police said.

She had no other details, other than that one of the drivers was going the wrong way on the parkway.

The suv was going west in the eastbound lanes being chased by a cop. It then hit another suv head on. Both drivers died.

So horrible for the victim, many prayers to their family. I am so tired of seeing or hearing about drunk driving. It's just ridiculous, there is no reason for it!! So many affordable and available options out there yet they choose to still get behind the wheel. If you have enough money to buy alcohol then you have enough money for a cab. When I know I will be drinking out with friends, I use Late night Chauffers, they actually drive you and your car home, and I als use the Uber App, both easy to use.
I wish they would advertise in Bars.
Drink Responsible, Even to the point that bars say show us your reservation that you have a ride home get a free beer/drink.
But even if one person sees and uses the advertisement its one less drunken idiot on the road.

I don't understand how they can pass legislation to require backup cameras in all new cars, but there is nothing requiring breathalyzers connected to the ignition???

Not saying this isn't horrible - it is tragic - and the "wrong way driver" is obviously at fault, but I don't see in any report that drunk driving was involved. Maybe I missed something or maybe that is actually the case, but right now all I see is that there was a police chase involved. Like I said, it's horrible, regardless of the cause.

Unfortunately, until we actually decide to start punishing these drivers nothing will stop them. And innocent people will continue to die.

So terrible and tragic. This is why I am nervous to ever be on the roads after 11pm. You just never know. Although this happens at any time.

Unfortunately even if they had that I don't think it would solve the problem. They could get some idiot to blow into it for them.

Unfortunately even if they had that I don't think it would solve the problem. They could get some idiot to blow into it for them.

The best option is the technology, and they already have protypes, where it is built into the steering wheel and reads the content of the oils/sweat in your hands.
