WR - how many towels do you need to do a towel cake?

I'm in the bridal party for a good friend of mine... The wedding isn't until February of 2009, but I'm already thinking about her shower. Chat Icon

I was thinking of doing a towel cake for the shower, but then noticed she only registered for 2 towels, 2 bath sheets, and 2 hand towels. I'm pretty sure that's it - she won't be adding to that. She didn't even register for wash cloths... (And no, they don't already live together. In fact, she and her fiance both live with their parents right now.) Putting aside the fact that *I* use two towels every time I shower, so DH would have to air dry if they were me... is this enough to do a towel cake?

That's definitely enough to do a towel cake. My sister did one recently and added colorful kitchen towels between the bath towels to add a "swirl" effect. So that's an option if you want to add a little more to it.

I dont know how many you need I'll try and find instructions but i know for sure its much more then that. SHe probably has no clue she needs more, so I would just buy what you need in excess of what she already has registered for, and save the gift reciepts for her in case she decides she really doesnt want that many towels

Re: WR - how many towels do you need to do a towel cake?

bottom 1-2 big bath sheets for the bottom

center 1 big bathsheet for the middle, maybe 1-2 handtowels to even it out

top a combination of hand towels and wash cloths

you are best rolling them up in the store and making a draft cake right there in the store so you know how many to buy

you also need big fat safety pins to connect the towels you are rolling and long push pins (like the long ones with the pearl on the end they give you for a corsage) for holding them in place

then decorative pins for the look

you need a centerpiece of fake flowers and then some ribbon to tie around each rung

ive made a few towel cakes so i can help you

I actually think this is a good point and a great idea. I was starting to wonder how often she was planning to do laundry -- or if her DH was going to have to air dry some days. Chat Icon Chat Icon

she is definitely going to need more towels than that.. and you are going to need more than that to make the towel cake. when my mom and i made my sisters i think it was 2 on the bottom one in the middle and hand towels on the top layer.

I think you can make a towel cake with what she has, but she'll definitely need more to use. I registered for 4 of each in 3 different colors, and I already lived with DH so we had plenty of towels.

If she doesn't want them she'll return them. And then she'll go buy them back after her DH leaves the wet, smelly towels on the floor and she goes to take a shower. Chat Icon
