WR - another towel cake question
I'm doing a towel cake for my friend's shower. I really like the look of this one with the pins in it...
I'm worried that putting so many pins in the towels will damage the towels. Will they be okay? Can I get really thin pins for this?
I want it to look pretty, but I also want her to be able to use the towels. (She picked out fairly expensive ones!)
Thanks.

I think the pins will be fine. They are really thin - maybe you could put a few less. I think it looks beautiful!!

Re: WR - another towel cake question
Thanks! I was hoping they were thin! I may space mine out more so I don't have to use as many.
I'm experimenting right now to figure out how I want to do this (the shower is a couple months away, but it may take my non-crafty self that long to get this perfect...) I am debating between trying to do a larger towel cake or trying to make a smaller one, but then put it on a cake plate (which would be another part of her gift).
I'm not even sure I can make the bottom small enough to fit on a cake plate, but I have time to experiment!

the pins will be fine, but it's important to make sure the pinheads are large enough that they won't get caught in the towel loops - that's what will damage the towels, not the holes that the pins will make. i think that's a gorgeous towel cake!!

if you can't fit it into a cake plate, you can get an inexpensive decorative plastic plate (like the ones that look like fake crystal) from a dollar store or someplace like that to put the towel cake on. i know i'd love to have one of those for entertaining!!

Ahhh, good to know! I will definitely keep that in mind. I just practiced the rolling with my own towels (I know, hers will be different), and I think I should be able to get it on a cake plate. I'll just make the towel cake FIRST before buying a cake plate - lol.
Now... where can I get those pins? Would a place like Michaels have them?

I hadn't even thought of that. If I can't make the cake small enough, I'll go this route. Thanks!

I made a towel cake for my SIL and was able to fit it on a cake plate. It looked really nice. Gorgeous cake!
