wow, I can not believe the ticket prices, this is crazyyyyy
I have been calling all day to book tickets to go visit my family overseas with DD and DH , tickets have gone up from $950- $1000 max to $1600+ ($1250 for DD) since last summer    
oh AND only one free 50 lb luggage allowed instead of 2 now 
So I booked (haven't purchased yet) for 1200 adult and 1000 DD, DH may not be able to go any more bc it's just too much  The tickets I booked are "cheaper" only bc they layover 2x (one for 3+hrs and one for 30 min) instead of once 
I can't believe this .
Sorry just venting, I;m just so stressed

I know...the ticket prices are ridiculous. And the baggage fees are just as insane. Can add a few hundred dollars to the cost.
I believe this will stop people from traveling. Especially with a family.

I think it will and it's vary sad. we haven't seen my family for 2 yrs now and if we do end up going this year there is no way we can go again for another year or even 2 bc of insane prices

I hope things work out and you and your DD can at least make the trip.
Being far from family is so hard.
I go through this with my DD and grandson.

This kills me! Usually when you went to the US you always got two pieces of luggage. I remember when it used to be 65 lbs each! Then they lowered it to 50 lbs each. Now just one! This will hurt the economy, do you know how many people shop in the US and bring stuff back b/c it's cheaper???
I decided when I go home to NY for a visit, I'm going to bring like two outfits and just go shopping when I get there. It still won't compare to what I would have bought.

I know and it is SO frustrating! especially when you have a 2yr old with you she needs more stuff than I do (j/k) Just her shampoos, lotions and meds (tylenol, motrin,benedril.....) weigh close to 10 lbs and rest is clothes and shoes and everything else she needs so that's going to be more than 50 lbs easily. plus my stuff and plus I have to bring few things for my family, little gifts for kids at least. so I don't know how we are going to do this down the road unless the prices come down a bit, we can barely afford the tickets at this point . Oh and extra luggage up to 50 lbs is $60
They make it impossible for most people to travel overseas

This is why we haven't been to Greece or Uruguay yet. We would love to go to Greece to visit DH's family or Uruguay to visit mine but the tickets alone would be close to $5,000

I hear Greece has insane prices too. We are not far from there , Georgia. I don't know about Greece , but tickets are much cheaper in spring and fall, they go up again in winter for holidays, but in fall it's going to be hard bc DD has preschool and in spring its just too cold , I want to go and enjoy a nice weather , tickets start going up mid may , just when it starts getting nicer.

That's insane! Dh and I are going to India this fall and the tickets are only costing us about $2500 all together (multiple flights). We had looked into going to Indonesia but the flights would have been about 5,000 for both of us

Yeah I would say they average about $1,200 each for the summer. There are 4 of us. The kids fares aren't really that discounted, which surprised me. Like you, we really want to go in the summer. My oldest is now in school so we can't go unless he's on vaca and we want to enjoy the beaches/pool, etc.
