Would you purchase a lightly used breastpump?
If it was clean and only used for a short time, would you purchase it?
I'm renting a hospital grade pump right now, but I'm thinking it woul dbe more beneficial to just buy one -- I just cant justify spending $300 on a new one. What do you think?

I only used a hospital grade one - probably like you are using. No milk touched any of the permanent pieces. If you could buy replacement pieces that actually had contact with milk I would get the used one...

You just need to buy the replacement parts that come in contact with the milk and it will be like new....I will be doing this my cousin is giving me her pump and I and getting new tubing.

i read online your also suppose to open up the machine to clean it- as sometimes milk goes back through the tubing into it... the hospital machines are closed- but the home ones are open that it happens....

The only closed system ones I know of are the hospital type rental ones and this one: Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump
I have this one. I liked it.

Re: Would you purchase a lightly used breastpump?
I wouldn't buy one until you know BF'ing or pumping is going to work for you. I rented my pump from the hospital initially and once I decided to go the pumping route, then I bought one new. Personally, I wouldn't buy a used pump for sanitary reasons. Even with my own Medela PISA, I've had milk overshoot, go into the tubes and who knows how far back into the pump's mechanism. You would never know that it happened by looking at the pump because I simply replaced the tubes.
I know a lot of people do buy them used, but it isn't something I would do. I also found it cheaper to buy the pump online than to get it in the store.

im thinking of renting one from the hospital.
if you can buy new parts for the used one, i think its ok. they're expensive and who knows how long you'll use it.
