Would you let you child model
A friend has a high level position with Ralph Lauren and offered to show my daughters picture to people who handle modeling. dh is on the fence and I'm not sure either, but it sounds like good money we could put aside for college. Anyone have thoughts or experiences ?

I sent my DS's pic to a children's only agency. The owner said he could definitely get booked. There are strict rules on how many hrs they can work and the money is not much for print. Commercials are very tough to get. And it is a time suck for the parents. I couldn't do it because I have a job. You would have to be available to take to go sees and then also be available if you get booked. So the go sees are on your dime and then for the actual shoot you might only make a few hundred $$. TO make any substantial money you would need to book weekly.

It's basically an audition.
Personally, I don't think I would. I get told constantly to put DD's pictures in for modeling, but I don't think I would. I don't think you'd make that much money in the grand scheme of things that it would be worth it- the time especially.

Re: Would you let you child model
If I had the time I would probably would try it out. But I heard its a big time commitment and I work full time so we couldn't do it.

No. I started to do it with dd1. She was picked for a major national company. Didn't go through with it though. It's not worth putting her through it for so many reasons.

I don't have any experience but if I were in your shoes I would let the friend show pics. No harm in doing that. I wouldn't go out of my way to take DC to auditions, go sees, etc.

Google for people's experiences. There are lots of blogs about it. Most people I know whose kids were successful (we have a friend whose first kid was the Bloomingdales baby)... would not do it again.

No because I have a job and have no desire for my toddler to have one as well. My MIL had my DH and BIL do this as kids and it sounded horrible. She eventually stopped because of the time commitment. I don't even know if either of them booked anything.

Re: Would you let you child model
Personally, if I had the time (a flexible job or SAH), I would as long as my kid enjoyed it. My dd is older, but she is getting more into acting and modeling, so we are exploring this world...it's hard for us because she is older and has a lot of activities, I have a full time job, and she has two siblings who have activities also, but she wants it and we are going to give it a go.

I looked into it briefly- it is a huge time commitment for a small return. I decided to not persue it with my daughter.

My friends daughter did and was quite successful. It's super time consuming and the pay is small even though the child booked major ads that are still running like 5 years later. Once the child was like 3+ I don't think she was as agreeable and so they stopped.

Re: Would you let you child model
My DD has done some print ads through auditions only no agency. I do think its best if you only have one child to worry about and you have the time. Its not for everyone. There is a website called kids casting thats good however there is a fee.

People tell me to do it with Hailey all the time. But i dont think its worth it as a kid, i know a lot of people that have done it. Id rather wait till shes older.
