Would you go to a shower if it were

a bit far?

Ok- found out the particulars of my shower. It will be next month, however it will be in Westchester which is a bit of a trek for friends/family who live in the Bronx, Queens,, lower Westcheter area and it also starts at 12 noon. It would be somewhat of a lengthy drive.

My family said they tried really hard to find a place more convenient, but they were working with factors such as the date not being available, places not having a large enough private room or private room at all, or just not nice places. The place they booked was reasonable, nice and had all the things they were looking for.

They were very apologetic, but said look at it this way, if they are your true friends they will travel. You have always supported everyone's function, maybe they will take that into consideration.

I am grateful for all they have done, but will admit a little bummed and worried. I was already depressed a bit thinking that it would be a struggle for people due to the holidays, but now I am envisioning myself and a few family members at a very empty baby showerChat Icon

Please tell me you would make the effort to travel for a friend.

Absolutely! What if you and your family were from Westchester? I would assume they would plan it there if that were the case. I am sure your guests will travel no matter how far!Chat Icon

Thanks Chat Icon

I should have clarified it will be in Peekskill. It is 45 minutes from me in the bronx, just concerned mostly about the people in the other boroughs who are a bit further out.

Re: Would you go to a shower if it were

Honestly, I don't think it's that far for people from the city to travel to. Honestly, I personally get sick and tired of the attitude of certain people who refuse to travel outside of the city. Taking the damn subway can be longer than a 45-miinute drive to Westchester County.

What??? I lived up in Cortlandt Manor and the shower was at my house - because all our family and friends were in LI. It was easier for me because I had it at 8 months pregnant. Everyone traveled. It is not a far drive at all and don't feel bad. Not to do for one day.

My shower was on January 20th and everyone but two people made it - no problem. I would do it for my friends - and did when we lived in Putnam.

So, don't fret people will come and it will be great. I'm speaking from experience.

Yes I have had parties in Tarrytown. I am from queens and so are my friends. My family is everywhere. It was not a big deal.

I would make the trip if it was for my friend. I do not think that Westchester is that far from the Bronx.

I would go. I had family members from Jersey and upstate come for mine. Its one day, its not like they are being asked to drive far everyday! You'll have a beautiful day either way Chat Icon

I live in CT and my shower was in CT- most of the people coming were from LI or somewhere else in NY.... Most people came! If they wanted to be there, they were!

I traveled to Mass. for my good friends baby shower in September.

I would try, but in Jan. if the weather was bad I probably wouldn't chance it being PG. Chat Icon I'm sure everyone will make an effort to go!

lurking (not pregnant) Chat Icon But I went to a shower in New Jersey and I live in MD. So I definitely would travel far for a baby shower.

yes if the shower was for a friend I would make the drive - Westchester isn't that far - it isn't like it is in CT or NJ (although if it was a good friend I would still make that drive).

Re: Would you go to a shower if it were

Anywhere in the tri-state area is not too far to travel for a shower. And Westchester is not far at all, it's actually right in the middle of everything!!! And especially closer for people from the Bronx. I also get annoyed when people complain about traveling "far" when it's not far at all. I have friends that refuse to leave LI..."you mean we have to cross a bridge?!?!" Chat Icon Or my favorite that applies to me since we've lived in Queens for years and now live in Manhattan..."you mean you want us to come into the city?!?!?" Get over it and travel out of your comfort zone once in a while.

Re: Would you go to a shower if it were

I think it really depends on where your guests live. Most of my guests are in Manhattan so we are having it in the city.

Personally I would travel to wherever for a friend but I have a car. Most of my friends in Manhattan do not.
