Would you go?

My nephew (and godson) is turning 4 at the end of next month. We are celebrating his bday in combo with my mom's in 2 weeks. Just a small family dinner/cake/presents thing. The weekend before his bday, they are having a "kids" party for him at their local rec center and invited us to come (we have a 21 month old son). It will be 5 days before my due date. They live in CT, just over the NY border. It's about an hour and a half drive from our house. Equally, it's an hour and a half from their house to our hospital. My husband is very hesitant about going. I said to him that we should just wait and make the decision when the time comes. I will be going to the doc weekly, will have some idea if I am progressing at all. I said if I am not really progressing yet, not having contractions or anything, it would be perfectly reasonable to go.

Facts to consider:
-I had my son 4 days past my due date.
-With my son, from the time I had my first contraction to the time he was born was 18 hours.
-As of my last dr. appt, at 34 weeks, was measuring "exactly on target" according to the doc, indicating my due date should be pretty accurate.
-With my last pregnancy, I felt great the entire time (same as this time) and worked right up until the day I went into labor.

So... what do you think???

I never went into labor with my son, so it's not a great comparison, but my DD (#2) was 9 days late. I was at a wedding, 7 days late, before having her. I felt great, although I did have to sit. I would totally go!

I think you need to play it by ear-- and see how you feel. It's not like you are missing the birthday celebration entirely because you have a family party. Maybe your DH can go and take you older DC and you can spend some quiet time at home. Kids parties are so chaotic anyway-- if the birthday boy's parents are understanding, I wouldn't stress about going!

I agree with the others, I would wait and see how you feel. I am sure they didn't invite you to make you feel bad if you didn't go.I am sure they are actually not expecting you to say yes, but would love for you to be there if you are up to it!

I was at a party in the city a week before my due date with my second son, so I say go and have fun.

ETA: If you don't feel up to it that day then I would pass.

Thanks for the input, ladies! My brother and SIL would not be even the slightest bit upset if I decided not to go. They 100% understand! It's more that *I* would be sad to miss it, lol. Of course, if I'm not feeling up to it that day I would definitely opt out. But if there is any way I can make it, I really want to!
