Would you EVER ask someone this?
So we finally started to tell people that we are PG. I can not get over how many people who have asked us if it was planned. Who asks that?!?! It seems so inappropriate to me! Anyone else have a lot of this???

I think that's definitely an inappropriate question. I honestly don't think anyone has ever asked me that.

Re: Would you EVER ask someone this?
I was only asked that once and to be honest, even though I can see how it can be interpreted as inappropriate, I didn't really bother me.

Re: Would you EVER ask someone this?
I got that alot actually and I never understood why people would ask that. I always answered that we weren't trying but if it happened it happened which was the truth.

Re: Would you EVER ask someone this?
I was asked that a lot. Even by my mother. It did not really bother me because our baby plans were far off, we just had an incident that was private that pushed us into parenthood.
what did bother me was follow up questions that challenged my abilities and plans. Such as babies are expensive, are you still moving? We thought everything through before the baby making, I felt like those were uncalled for.

I get that question ALL the time! Even now at 25 weeks when it should be obvious we're not saying. I just say "we're not telling because you can judge either way you'd like."

Re: Would you EVER ask someone this?
I have gotten the comments... and they don't end even once they come! You'll get "double trouble" and that classic... better you than me and God bless you, constantly. Ignore and realize, better me than you and God has blessed me!
Also ignore the nagging ones that ask "Oh, are they natural?" What baby isn't "natural"...

Re: Would you EVER ask someone this?
No I would never ask someone that.
People always ask me if I was planned because of the age gap between me and my brother and because my parents were older (38 and 43) when they had me. I was probably the most planned of the 4 kids - reasons of which are rather sad. But what kills me is when people ask if we all have the same parents. I am 36 and my siblings are 44, 47 and 49. People DO stay married and have kids ya know!

Re: Would you EVER ask someone this?
I have had friends ask me if this pregnancy was planned. Most family and my parents' friends are just too excited to ask.
I think with our friends it has to do with the fact that we didn't mention anything about "trying". We were letting nature do its thing and not meeting for baby dancing dates or temping or charting or whatever.
I guess friends nowadays expect to be in the loop.

Re: Would you EVER ask someone this?
I do think it's inappropriate.
My mother in law asked that when I told her my brother was having his 4th child. (His three other kids were all under the age of 5 at the time) I answered back with " Why do you want to know" She didn't really know how to answer that one.
I'm sure these people mean no harm but they don't realize how personal these things are. Who cares if it's planned or not. It's a new baby coming into the world!!

Re: Would you EVER ask someone this?
I don't know if you ladies agree, but I also think it is inappropriate for people to ask -- How long were you trying? I know my DH's RUDE family will ask and they will get a snarky answer!!! Yes, we have been married for three years -- we wanted to accomplished certain things career-wise, travel, and enjoy married life before we had a family. They are dense -- they think that unless you have a honeymoon baby something is "wrong".
