Would you call 311?
Ok, so I work on 38th and Broadway and walk to and from work from Penn everyday. Well, since Monday, everytime I'm on 7th ave, between 36th and 37th street I get hit with this overwhelming smell of fish. It honestly smells like a fish truck over-turned and there are dead fish all over the street.
I remember a few months ago people calling 311 when they smelt a sweet maple syrup like smell in the air and it turned out to be... well I don't remember now, lol but it was something.
Anyway, would you call 311 about it? I physically feel like I'm going to be sick when I smell it and it's annoying me that I can't figure out where it's coming from!

I used to work right near you in the Morgan Stanley building!
To me the city always smells like fish in the summer. I hate summer in the city.

You never know what it could be, so it doesn't hurt to call 311, and they'll have the EAP come and check it out.
You have nothing to lose.

I agree, and the subway is def. the worst and always smells.. but it's so weird how the smell is hanging in the air just between 36th and 37th on 7th... once I pass 37th it's gone.. tell me that isn't bizarre..lol

Re: Would you call 311?
If there is stagnant water in the area, it's probably the reason why. I work across from the Verizon building where they are tearing it apart and this morning there was stagnant water that stunk ... gross! Also when I used to work near 56th street, there was one area between 5th & 6th that ALWAYS stunk of fish.
I'd call and report unsafe conditions.

Re: Would you call 311?
On one hand, I think you should call because there may be some unsanitary conditions.
On the other hand, I don't think I could call and get through this sentence without busting out laughing - "Umm... I smell fish."
