Would you be annoyed?
So, my grandmother lives in FL and is in perfect health. She's in her early 70s. However, she's not big on flying (honestly, I don't get the fear but I know this is an issue for some). She also complains about coming up to NY when it's cold. Anyway, we told her she should come up in time for Easter this year (b/c she always spends holidays on her own if she doesn't fly up). If she came up March 22 then she'd be here for Easter, my late grandfather's bday (3/26) and then I'm due 3/30. She says she doesn't want to risk coming up too early so she'll just come up in April after I have the baby. Fine. Then she says the next time she'll be up is July for my cousin's 3rd birthday. I reminded her that the baby's baptism is late June and she tells me she'll miss it. Now while I know I should appreciate her coming up in April for the baby's birth, I can't help but think that her first great grandchild's baptism is a little more significant than her grandchild's 3rd birthday. Am I being a baby?

Re: Would you be annoyed?
i guess it depends on how religious she is... she may not think a baptism is as significant as a birthday if she's not. sorry i'm not much help!! if it were me, then yes, i'd be annoyed

Re: Would you be annoyed?
I would be upset, however that being said, I know that older family members do sometimes play favorites. It's unfortunate, but this might be the case, as unfair as it sounds.
I'm sorry, I would be a little po'd

Re: Would you be annoyed?
Maybe she's just trying to make sure she doesn't play favorites? If she already confirmed she would be there for the b day party, she doesn't want to bail? In any case-

Re: Would you be annoyed?
I could see if it were my cousin's 1st bday - that is significant - but 3rd? She only has a 5 grandchildren (they range is me (30) to this baby at 3) so I know she tries to do what she can. But, seriously last year's 2nd celebration was an informal yard BBQ (which is fine and what I'll be doing for my kids!). Seems to me if you're going to do one then it's obvious which means more for this year.
Also, our baby's christening is June 21 and my cousin's bday is late July (I guarantee you they don't have plans for a celebration yet as who would), so technically there is no reason she couldn't come up for a month if she didn't want to fly back and forth. She's come up for 5-6wks in past summers.

Re: Would you be annoyed?
I would be a bit upset, but I don't know if there is much you can really do about it.
I'm sorry she won't be there for the Baptism...
