I know you have to buy the replacement tubes and accessories. But is this safe? Thanks!

I'm sure it's safe if you buy all new stuff. That said, I still would NOT. I'm silly with certain things. I don't want my girls touching someone elses did. Kwim.

No. I know I am weird with that stuff, but I did not even use my best friend's. I don't think they're meant to be shared, unless hospital grade.

No, I wouldn't. I'm taking my sister's and buying all new pieces and I still feel a little weird about it.

Re: would u buy a used breast pump from someone you don't know?
i wouldn't have minded (MIL bought me one when I had supply issues with DD1...I hardly used it and hope to see it)...once you get new horns, valves, tubes, and collection jars there is nothing that had any connection to another person's body...just a machine that sucks, literally. bodily fluids don't contact the pump. people borrow rented ones or use the hospital ones in the hospital all the time.

I wouldn't either.
I'm just weird with that sort of stuff. I don't even think I'd buy a CBEFM from someone else.

Re: would u buy a used breast pump from someone you don't know?
i did- a friend of the family just gave me hers- she said she used it once... i was eeky about it, but i realized that really all i was getting from her was a motor. the tubes, the cones, the valves etc, i bought. they were all brand new, so literally your body doesnt touch anything anyone else would have

Re: would u buy a used breast pump from someone you don't know?
You can call your insurance company and see if they will cover a breast pump- i have empire blue cross blue shield and they did- so i was able to get a $300 Medela pump for free. Let me see if i can find the thread with all of the information............ I think the company to contact for it is Edgepark??

Re: would u buy a used breast pump from someone you don't know?
I wouldn't. It's just one of those things that i think should be new.
That being said, DS was hospitalized and I needed to pump and used the hospital motor and didn't think twice about it. They gave me all the new parts and tubes. You've got to think they'd be sterile at the hospital.

ITA, since you are buying all new things for it, there is no connection between you and another user.

Re: would u buy a used breast pump from someone you don't know?
I would. Im planning on getting one from a friend of a friend. Im definitely gonna buy all new parts of course. You can get them at bbb or bru. Its no different then when someone rents them from the hospital. I just wont spend $300 on one. jmo

Re: would u buy a used breast pump from someone you don't know?
I'm using my best friend's pump, who used hers less than a week. I'm going to get new tubes and such for it. However, I don't think I'd feel comfortable using a stranger's used pump. There is no reason for this other than just being uncomfortable.

Re: would u buy a used breast pump from someone you don't know?
Actually I read today in baby bargin's you shouldn't use another persons pump bc of the way these pumps are made it can cross contaminate inside the pump. I wouldn't! Its not the same as the ones you can rent. Those are special for various people to use.

Re: would u buy a used breast pump from someone you don't know?
like a PP mentioned, all you're really using is the motor. You'll be replacing everything else. But as far as the replacement parts- after buying everything, how much are you actually saving if you do this rather than buying brand new? Just something to consider.. sometimes we think we're saving $ and after all's said and done it doesnt save much. Either way, I know pumps are $$$ and don't look forward to buying one myself, it's still no where near as expensive as formula! good luck
