Would this concern you? Child being embarrassed?

For the record, my kid is pretty well-adjusted, except for a few little quirks here and there.

Anyway, my little guy was dancing around to one of those songs on Nick Jr and I was watching him from the couch and I said, "yay! good dance moves!" and he looked back in surprise, and then shook his finger at me and said, "No...no".. like he was embarrassed I saw him dancing. He wanted me to look away. Then he would continue dancing.

This has happened a few times.

When I would dance in my room to Ace of Base and get caught, I was embarrassed, but I was also way older, KWIM?

Is this normal? I don't get it. I feel bad. I don't even know where this insecurity came from.

Totally normal.

DS is nearly 3 and gets embarrassed if we catch him singing or dancing.

I can remember the same thing happening with my nieces and nephews as well. I never gave it a second thought.

I think normal..i hope!Chat Icon

In the backseat, Josh will sing...LOUD. I don't know if he knows I can hear him or what...but would never look at me and sing like that in the living room.

thanks for the replies!

I wonder why they get embarrassed though.. like how do they know to get embarrassed at such a young age?

DD tells us we are not allowed to watch her. Meanwhile, she's standing in the middle of the family room or the kitchenChat Icon

ETA: Oh, and she is not the least bit embarrassed to walk out of the bathroom with not pants or undies on asking for her treat because she went on the pottyChat Icon

I think its normal, my 2 year old gets embarrassed if I catch him dancing or singing. He smiles and bows his head as if to say, "oh man, you saw me."

It's cute, and I usually start dancing and singing with him so he sees that it's ok to sing and dance like that.

Normal. If I sing with Abby, its like I am stealing something that belongs to her. Its ego-centrism if you ask me more so than embarrassment.

DD gets shy occasionally when she’s singing/dancing too…she’ll say “don’t watch me” but then the next second, she’ll want me to watch her. It’s normal (at least to me Chat Icon )

Totally normal...whether you are 3 or 30, embarrassment still feels the same.

AJ does the same
She'll actually shush me if I sing with her or say something while she's dancing Chat Icon

Totally normal! DS gets even more embarrassed when he sees me trying the dancey dance moves on Yo Gabba Gabba!
