would this bother you??? (ped related)

So, we all know dd has been diagnosed with diabetes....and odds are this would not have been picked up back in Sept anyway...but I would like your opinion...

When dd was diagnosed, before they sent us to the hospital, I asked the dr to make sure nothing had come up weird on her "pee in a cup" results from Sept on it...and she told me that dd was "unable to void"...this is not true, I took her and helped her pee in the cup, I remember it, it was the first time she ever did and she thought it was cool, so cool that she wanted to try it again later at homeChat Icon until I explained there was no need...(the next time we took younger Chat Icon she asked to go pee and wanted to go in the cup again...Chat Icon )

so I guess the thing is, the more I thought about it, the more disturbed I got....I mean, what else should they have tested her for? and how do they prevent it again??

I called three days ago and left a msg for the office manager who was not in, then I waited two days (ok, so I have just been so busy it slipped my mind) and now i called today...

turns out, she thought I was calling about a form that they recieved now from the ins. co....still, I feel she should have called back, but I let that go....

well, she tells me that its weird they wouldn't have written it, but that if there was a specimen and it wasn't labeled and it came back abnormal they would have searched and found its owner...also, that the nurse prob checked it, wrote the results on a paper that it was fine and then just forgot to transcribe it to her chart...

either way, it still bothers me...i mean, its somewhat of a big practice but i took them in the day so its not like it was super busy and heck, its not a hosptial or crazy busy place...would what you do? trust it never happens again?

(she also made it like "its not a big deal...people make mistakes" which I agree, but isn't this kinda a big one??)

thanks for reading...I guess I am just overwhelmed and would like other mom's opinions...would this bother you? (and what about how they handled my complaint...which wasn't even, more of a "um, how can we prevent this from happening again??")Chat Icon

Yes and that is how bad mistakes happen I would NOT be happy and would consider going elsewhere.

I'm puzzled how it could even possibly be missed. When I go to the dr, I pee in a cup, and they put a multi-test strip in the cup for a few seconds. It tests for a few things, and sugar is one of them. It never leaves my sight, and I watch the nurse write the info in the chart. It's very simple, very quick, and nearly fool-proof.

odds are, she didn't have it then - it comes out of nowhere, they are not even sure what causes it (its a variety of factors but no info on how/why still...they are still looking and researching!)

It would def bother me. The cup should be labeled before you recieve it and not only that but if DD sugar was really high the urine would have tested positive for glucose.
