Would this bother you?

My "review" was sprung on me this past Wednesday about 5pm. I had no knowledge that it was going to be held and was not prepared for it. Our reviews are not held on a timely basis and could have taken place in February as they have in the past. I was just asked if I was in agreement with everything a couple of minutes ago. I am not and I'm in the process of preparing to negotiate a higher salary. I did express this to my boss that I wanted to negotiate my salary but haven't had ample time to prepare. Aside from this, we were touching on the subject of some telecommuting which I wanted to explore further but stopping by my office doesn't lend itself to talking about the options. Am I wrong or should I have had some prior knowledge of this and be able to set up a scheduled meeting to discuss the issues further?

Good managers schedule review times a few days in advance for the exact reasons you stated.

It wouldn't bother me because I would either ask for it to be rescheduled or let him do his part of my review with the understanding that it's not concluded until we finish meeting a day or two later.

Re: Would this bother you?

i definitely think they should have given you advance notice. i mean a review isn't just about them reviewing you--its about you prepping yourself and attempting to negotiate things that might want to go over with your bosses.
